Probably looking to p/up a V6 Pathfinder soon as a daily beater. Are they reasonably reliable in the 120+ area? Is it still the VG30E platform for those years? Also, anything special with the 4x4 that is a problem child?

Have a budget of $2K-$3K.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight. Much appreciated.

I have been on both sides of the years you are looking at and both went over 200k miles without any problems mechanically. Just lookout for rot!

try to find one that has a recent timing belt change.

One of the most common problems is broken exhaust manifold studs. If you hear a ticking noise from that area, that's likely what it is.

I had a 95 SE 5-speed and zero problems with it when I traded it in at over 110k miles.

The VG30E in those things is also gutless as can be. However, there are a lot of aftermarket parts available that can help you maximize the power out of that engine. And if you're comfortable with rebuilindg engines, you can take a VG33E block and up the displacement to 3.4L
