Too bad you’re at the other end of the country, otherwise I’d be sooooo taking the trip with you to your dealership- another sale would be made today!

For now, I'm sending out emails!

Eikon if you got the site riv.ca you find all the vehicles allowed and not allowed. What is happening is the Car manufcaturers are now colluding against the wise CDN,s heading south by telling transport Canada all there 2008 models do not meet a certain safety code in realtion to the security Immobolizer unit. Though take a Honda that is made in Canada than exported to the USA. It can not come back even though it is exactly the same. Also the CDN car manufacturers have always justified there higher price due to the weaker dollar.

Note to Barney you didnt need a file # as your is before the required manufacturing date.

Book your appointment to get the daytime running lights installed. Dealer here stocks them and has done a ton. Cost $114.00 parts and 1-3 hours labor

Sorry guys - pulled the trigger on a fully loaded 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. When you added in the fact that there is no duty (US made), the warranty is honoured and the PST is rebated back to me in BC it became waaaaay cheaper.

There is a bit too much riding on this to take the risk - but if anyone still fancies it, there are still a couple of pre - Sept 1st models out here on the Wet Coast!

Good luck everyone, I will be closely monitoring this board!

Hi Barney, do you mind if I email you some questions about the Ford?

The Rogue is seeming more and more out of reach now that Nissan is tightening the screws...

My American Rogue:

My Canadian Rogue:

The day was full of stress, but I made it over. I would watch out for this RIV thing going on, and grab a pre-September version if you can. Otherwise, I wouldn't be comfortable unless you want to install one of the aftermarket immobilizers.

I'm not in the clear yet though, now begins my 30 day journey to register the vehicle in Ontario.

And finally, my ironic picture of my American to-be Canadian Rogue taken in America in front of a Canadian-made concrete parking bump.

Seeing as the warranty issue with Nissan has not changed- exuent, did you register your new Rogue in the State of purchase? Is it still necessary? What third party company (warranty) are you going with? Some sites mention http://www.ensurall.com have you heard anything about them?

Also on your way back over the border, if I am to understand this correctly you paid GST, a NAFTA fee (since it's not manufactured in North America), the RIV fee and possibly an air conditioning tax. Is this right? Was there anything else? Could you break it down for me please?

and CONGRATULATIONS on your newly imported Rogue!

I am going across Staurday. I was told they are not collecting the RIV fee and you pay that online when home. But you are correct an Air Condition fee of $100 also plus 6% GST and 6.1% because made in japan. Will report my progress on Saturday If you see a Gotham Grey Rogue being chased by border guards and RCMP on CNN that will be me

Your White rogue is sweet makes me look forward to my 22 hour drive

I paid 6% GST, 6.1% duty, and a $100 excise tax for A/C.

RIV fee you can pay as a separate transaction, but I went and paid it online after I got home.

I did not register it in the US, as I don't have a US address, and I'm not a US citizen. I think I will be pursuing a third party warranty. I've spoken to Secure Warranty, who gave me several quotes ($2300-3700 range for 2yr power train - 4 year bumper to bumper).

I'll take a look at the company you mentioned as well.

lozen13: I would double check that you can bring a vehicle across on a Saturday. I know for me I was told I could only bring it across 8-4 Monday to Friday.

When I arrived at my dealership, the daytime running lights had already been installed for $129. He didn't tell me ahead of time, but its cheaper than I would have paid here, and I don't have to take time off to have it done here.

Yes, they are Xenon headlights, plus halogen foglights. DRL basically turns them on all the time, which I actually like, since that means the lights turn off automatically when the car turns off

Does your DRL connected on Xenon headlight or on a different light! I put a deposite on a similar Rogue as yours, SL AWD black Leather but in silver ice color.

Hi Lozen, any word on the outcome of the Transport Canada press conference? I can't find any info in their website. Do you think my Oct 31st purchase for a vehicle manufactured after Sep 1st will go through? I'm a little nervous. If I lose this one, that'll be the second one. I lost my Honda when they stopped selling to Canadians. So much for free trade.

Nothing yet. If I had not been able to get a Pre 09/07 one from my dealer I would have cancelled the deal. Iam still nervous about getting my 08/2007 across.

Hope it all works out I saw a Rogue today and seeing the pics it sure is a sweet ride

Will post when I get home Sunday If I get home

DRL on mine mean Xenon on all the time.

I had a friend who spoke with the manager at the RIV. They mentioned that the announcement would likely occur later on this week, probably more towards Friday. Seems to me like everyone is expecting bad news, however it sounds as if they're expecting good news to come of this, as my friend was more reassured of the announcement than anything.

Now I'm just waiting for my form 2 to be sent to me. RIV just finally responded to an email I sent them on November 7th, before I found out my vehicle was a pre-September version, and this was basically what they told me:

Quote »At the moment, we are waiting to hear back from Transport Canadaregarding the importability of your vehicle.

We understand that there has been some ambiguity regarding the List ofAdmissible Vehicles from the United States, as it is subject to revisionwithout notification. We request however at this time that you remainpatient while we wait for the involved parties to provide definitiveanswers regarding these issues. We are expecting a resolution within thenext few days. As soon as it is released to the press, it will be postedon our website http://www.riv.ca. We recommend that you monitor our websiteduring the week for an update.

In the meantime, please forward any comments you have regarding thevehicles' admissibility to the original equipment manufacturer.[/quote]To me, expecting a "resolution" is a good thing, but I would reserve judgement until we actually hear the announcement. Either way, it looks like they're about 7 days behind in their email correspondences, so I'll be waiting for a bit for my form 2 to arrive.

Just got exactly the same email from RIV.ca - about my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, which i have now bought. Called them up, the guy there says that the FEH is inadmissible and always was and that they never would have said otherwise, then actually reads his own docs and finds out it is admissible. Got a ref # for the call, but I am still quite worried.

I am starting to think that the RIV aren't appreciating all this extra work from the strong C$ - they have been quite rude to me most times I have called.

I agree if they made canadaians return these cars or not allow them RIV would face tons of legal action and strong cases to boot. You tell the consumer its ok in some cases give exemptions nad than not allow any.

Ok, I’ve hit a bit of a snag concerning 3rd party warranty companies…

Secure Warranty and Warranty Direct don’t provide service in Quebec and Ensurall, although it does service Quebec- it only works through dealerships and not directly with the public.

Does anyone have any other links to companies (that include coverage in Quebec) or other ideas for warranty coverage for the Rogue?

An update on my struggles…

So as a mentioned earlier Ensurall only sells 3rd party warranties through dealerships here in Quebec, so I took a stab at it and went to a couple of Nissan Dealerships to ask…

Picture this: it’s a Wednesday night and the dealership is dead quiet, right? So I tell them my situation and one of the sales associates starts getting really argumentative with me, while the others gathered ‘round to listen (I managed to keep my good humour by thinking- your scare tactics will not work on me *talk to the hand*)! In a nutshell they said a resounding “NO” and I managed to escape without them pinning “Traitor” on my back!

A little miffed but not despondent, I went to another Nissan dealership who said that it may be possible! They work with a company called Industrial Alliance who may be able to offer me warranty coverage thorough the dealership; costing anywhere between $1800 - $2000 dollars! He’s going to get back to me tomorrow to confirm (It’s a “maybe” and not a “yes” possible due some issue about me driving the car back from the US- I’m not sure, I really, really, really, hope not).

If this works out- I will sing this dealership’s praises! They were helpful (they even advised me on the immobilizer, daytime running lights and possible odometer issues with the RIV)! Guess who’ll be getting my business during and after my 3rd party warranty coverage?

I'll keep you posted and I still appreciate any suggestions!

Note that Secure Warranty also only works through dealerships. I got a quote from a Toyota dealership. They just resell the warranty. You should be able to talk to someone at the Ensurall company to find out where their closest reseller is.

I've received my Form 2 from the RIV. All this leaves is my final inspection, which should be easy considering that everything is already completed for compliance. That's a load off my shoulders.

I'll probably take it in in the next few days, and hopefully I can get plates on it by next week!

Just went to Canadian Tire, and the form 2 inspection is a joke. The guy came out with me into the parking lot, walked around the car, checked the lights, safety belt, made sure there was no airbag light on, and faxed the papers off for me. Whole process took no more than 10 mins.

Now I'm off to the MTO.

Im back. My experience had some drama. I was turned around at US border as I only had a copy of the Title. Us Customs guy total jerk. Told me to drive back to Vegas or get them to courier it to Great Falls. Ended up staying a night in Great falls and Title was couriered. Went back through and US side took 45 minutes and CDN side 3 minutes. Let me add the US side of borderwas disorganized and run by arsholes. Though the vehicle drives very nice.

CDN customs lady told me they are doing 200 cars a day at Sweetgrass alone

Hi Lozen13, did you mean Title or MSO? Did you get the vehicle titled in Vegas? For the import that I am doing I will have an MSO but no Title documents.

Correct Sorry I only had a copy of the MSo they couriered the Original. If I had a brain I would have called US customs and verified what the dealer told me. I have asked the dealer to reimburse me for my hotel cost for the night.
