In my woes to find the best turbo for my quick spooling KA I came across a turbonetics T3. I have a turbonetics now and its working fine so Ill give them another shot.

My setup is pretty solid to ditch it for bottom mount like I wanted to, so I'm thinking of re-doing some things to improve, and while I'm there to get a turbo that will be very responsive.

I came across this Turbonetics T3, and I'm wondering if any of you think the following specs would work for a KA24DE with out surging or chocking the thing:
Aiming for 15PSI:

Specs:
T3 compressor with Super 60 Trim Wheel
3inch Inlet
Ceramic Ball Bearing with Water Cooling
F1-62mm Turbine Wheel
V Band inlet and outlet
and .65AR turbine housing

No compressor maps that I can find. Can anyone give any opinions? Thanks!!

A T28 and bigger will be a good match for the KA if you want very little lag and just 15 psi.

Umm... ... WTF... ... WD... ... did you just say a T28 and good match... in the KA-T section... ... in the same sentence? Lol jk
I never would thought I would've heard that from you haha, I thought I was only one that believed 28-KA-T's

Thanks for the input guys!

I went ahead and got an SR20 manifold converted to KA with external gate port. For turbo I ordered a GTX2867r with .82AR T25 Plus housing with a 2.5" V band exit.

Turbo is coming today! Manifold is done:

Yeah, I never thought I'd say it either...

No sense in adding lag if you don't have to + I have to face it, not everyone wants 450whp. If you just want 12-15 psi there's no need to go with a T3/T04. I was actually looking at a 2870 myself

Unfortunately it's hard to put money into my 540 AND the 240. The 540 is just leaps better then the 240 in bare bones format, so it makes investing $$ in the 240 pretty hard. I like having this problem though :dblthumb:

The 28's are great at providing the KA with a "beltless supercharger" lol

Consider this WD, skip the 2871 and go with a Tomei ARMS 8270 from FRSport.com or somewhere. They the tough MHI centers with Tomei's wheels and of coarse they've worked the housings too. Theyre also priced about the same or a little less than a 2871 and with the KA's displacement the difference in spool between a BB 28 and something in JB will be negligible. I'd imagine it'd take a computer to tell the difference.

Some other one's I've been keeping an eye on and doing some serious research on are the Kinugawa 18 and 20G's on Ebay. Found SEVERAL other forums with guys inquiring about and running them that are very pleased with their quality and performance. Not your typical 8psi for a few months quality but like 20+lbs of beat-the-snot-out-of-me for thousands of miles quality. Research has turned up to me to either be A) MHI centers or B) Perfect faqking copies of "Galactic more power Scotty proportion"

I did consider the tomei M8270 myself and almost bit the bullet on it. But I got a good deal on the GTX2867r with the housing I wanted.

It came in today! Here it is:

I said 2870, because it's not a 2871 ;)

Speedy Racer 2870

It's the cheapest balanced turbo on the internet. My main thing against the others of similar spec are the $$. For the price of a GT2871 I could buy the above turbo and the best alcohol control module on the planet.

How well do those hold up? I had been throwing the idea around of doing a KA-DE in my 96 hardbody after I finish my CA s13 (which I have a build thread on here somewhere) and hanging one of the kinugawa 18G's on it but it all depends on what happens with a 72 240Z I found cause If I buy it then it'll be RB25/SC6262 time and I'll keep my single slammer in my truck.

Regardless I want another KA-T though lol

I have a friend that works there, confirms they are balanced and that they cover their warranties. However, he also says they hold up just as well as any other turbo and has sold many of them to his friends in the Honda crowd.

They won't have the newest wheels, nor the best ball bearings, but they should be on par with older tech turbo's from Garret. I'm replacing all the suspension on my 540i at the moment. I may pursue this more when I get back from NOPI Atlanta this month.
