What do you guys think? Crazy? What do you guys think it is worth (good condition). Service history is unkown. Is there a way to determine what the service history is on this vehicle (Infinity dealer service, that is)? Is it possible to call a dealer and request the service history on these cars?

Thanks,Frank

They should be able to give it to you with the VIN. If not, call Infiniti Consumer Affairs and ask them.

That's a lot of miles for an '02! At least you know there's no odometer tampering... I bet the car didn't cool down fully from the day they bought it!

When you subtract 8 cents per mile in excess of 72k [$14,000] from 6 years of age depreciation [$12600] you get a negative number so the vehicle is just worth what a junkyard would pay $1,000...............nothing more.

I think it is worth $1k max, seriously I am sure the guy is trying to get more, but the 02' had germlins, is known to burn oil if the motor was not properly broken in, and has lots of displays and stuff that would cost thousands if they failed.

if you paid maybe even 2k or 3k for it than you drive it, let it fall apart under your, or spend 4-6k on it and slowly build it back up (say transmission, starter, alternator, etc all fail at some point).

That is too many miles, I had a Maxima that I got up to 295k, just so much use!! My 97' has 91k on it, that sounds sort of funny doesn't it. My advise, if you can get the service history and it is strong, you get it to a mehanic and they say the transmission and engine are sound...and it drives okay, I'd risk no more than 2-3k.

Why you are looking at a car with that many miles is unfathomable.

Infiniti dealer performed service history is available to any owner, so if you have not established a relationship with a service manager or writer, good luck! Owner privacy is being taken a little more seriously these days.

Thank you guys. I appreciate your help very much.

For those curious, he's asking $6900 and said he would go as low as $6500. Had I looked at it, I may have offered him $3K - $4k, which I see is too high now.

The better deal might be to see what he is charging for what he is smoking.

I just bought my 03' two weeks ago and I paid $8995 and it has 111,4XX on it, and it was maintained by Infiniti of Lisle, and Gold Coast Infiniti. So I wouldn't pay anymore than $3500-$4k for it. To get vehicle info, just call the dealer and explain the situation, and they will give you the history. I got mine before I actually purchased the car, all you need are the last 6 digits of the vin.

EDIT: P.S. I have a friend who bought a 2002 LS430 w/195k on it for $5000 from a private seller.

at $1000, it's worth it to me! Parts alone...

Not, for a reliable DD, agreed...but there are other metrics to examine for "real cost."

I assume it has as built transmission 236,000 miles is amazing, but most miles must have been interstate with few shifts per mile.I have always though there should be a shift counter that accumulates total shifts so people could better understand used transmissions and the 100,000 shift design point.

To me, its worth $4,000. The ride to 300,000 miles will be very expensive.
