I’ve had two Altimas and five Sentras. Loved them all. But the new Versa looks good, especially in metallic orange. My one concern is highway driving. Can the Versa cruise at 70 mph and 2,000 rpm’s? I don’t want a car that whines at 3,000 rpm’s on the highway. I’d get the SR, although the engine is the same in all models. Interesting note: the current Versa is slightly bigger than my mother’s old 1986 Honda Accord! It also has more horsepower.

The new Versa is a real car, not a whiner. No more jumping sideways in a crosswind, either. Very improved from the last design.

I've seen the 2nd generation Versa up close and it's a very nice car that I think you'll be very happy with.

The rear spoiler on my 2019 Versa makes the crosswind issue much less of an issue than it was with my 2007 Versa. I also like the $4,000 I saved buying my 2019 Versa rather than the 2nd generation Versa. Too each their own I guess.

I'm curious if the CVT of Versa is reliable or not.

I've been fortunate to have good luck with the CVT's on both of my 2nd generation Versas. Good and regular maintenance and reasonable driving habits are key. There was a previous transmission recall that I can't now say I remember the specifics on. Maybe safercar.gov might have more information on that. I can't speak about the new 3rd generation Versa and it's CVT.

Same tranny as the '19's with minor revisions, RE0F11A -> RE0F11B. Same 2-speed planetary setup. Like any CVT they need TLC, regular fluid changes. The planetary clutches are subject to wearing out, so their potential lifespan is limited compared to a "pure" CVT, but they're still very reliable units with proper maintenance.

I keep up my maintenance and have had very good results with the CVTs in both of my Versas. Agree with VStar650CL, I do regular maintenance and I don't skimp on it.

Did you end up buying the new subcompact vehicle?
