Hello! I am thinking of buying a 1990 300ZX from a friend. I've bugged him for years and he finally agreed to sell it. He's the original owner, and the car has about 115,000 miles on it, it's an automatic, and has leather interior, t-tops etc... He maintained it pretty well. In 2006, the car developed a power steering pump or hose issue, and shortly after that the AC quit blowing cold. He decided that it was time to get a car that was a little more economical and he parked the Z Car. It hasn't been started in years, so I know it will need all of the fluids flushed before I even attempt to start it. I also know that once it is going, I'll need to do tires and probably brakes. Then after all of that is done, I will have to fix the power steering and AC. The paint is faded and the dash is warped a bit, but I'm not worried about cosmetics. I enjoy making cars look pretty again! He told me he wanted between $500 and $700. I would love to see the car back on the road, and I have no doubts that with some TLC it would be a reliable car again. Do you think that is a fair price? My last Z Car was a 1982 280ZX and I've been wanting a 300Z for a while now. Are there any issues I should look out for? I know pics would help, but I don't currently have any.

Not sure what area you are in, but that sounds like a fantastic price!!! Z's in my area are generally overpriced. There are several on craigslist in my area that have blown engines, or bad transmissions and they refuse to take less than $2000 dollars!!! Some even more than that! and those are Z's that have some body damage and such.

$700 is a phenomenal price in my opinion!!! But, again, it's all about where you live, and what they are going for in your area. If the body is in good shape, the interior is easy to fix. I would jump on that deal! Also, is it a Turbo? And is it the 2 Seater? Or 2+2?

I live in Texas, and haven't seen any cheap Z cars here either. The only body issue is that the drivers side fender has a dent in it from a deer, but I have found someone with a fender locally and he doesn't want much. Other than that, the dash warp and the paint fading, it is in decent shape. I'm not sure if it is a turbo, and I believe it might just be a 2 seater. I've been trying to contact him to get more info, but he has been out of town. I am hoping to talk to him today. I really hope to make the deal within the next couple of weeks and start wrenching on it! I am excited to be the o be to put it back on the road and bring it back to its former glory!
