just surfing ebay for engines and pop up an idea......................is it workable to

make a AWD Ka24de 240sx with AWD frontier ka24de transmission..........is it

possible??

by looking into the specs, it sounds possible to bolt up to 240sx

ka24de....the block seems to use same bolting patterns....probably need

another hole for the 4x4 knob.........with custom driveshaft..........

by compare to the R14 using RB engines and drivetrain, i think if we use

frontier AWD transmission it will not cost that much to fabcricate so many

stuff....plus for the KA-T guys it will be another good option to kill EVO and STI

guys.

think it's possible??? any ideas or any suggestion?

anything is possible

its just going to take alot of time, money, and research and trial and error fabricating, best of luck if you try it, I've never heard of the idea

on the superstreet magazine there are some japanese guys built up Z33 with R32 drivetrain(hyper lemon 350Z) and there is R14 project...

personally i think the transmission should fit with no problem....a Z with VQ can fit a holliger transmission in.......ka stock 4x4 transmission should fit in there too...

The problem will be the front axles and pumpkin. Because of the lay out (from what I have seen) the front end will need to be jacked up in order for the front axle to ride under the engine. I am pretty sure the front knuckles will need to be replaced with the Frontier's as they are 1/2 ton axles to begin with. Then there is the issue of matching gears front to rear. I know the newer trucks run Dana's, but do not know about the older bodies.Chew on that for a bit.

People seem to confuse AWD, and 4WD a lot. AWD is nothing like 4WD. With 4WD, all wheels lock, and drive at the same speed, maybe not both sides at the same time, but front and rear will be going the same speed, and it's not built to go over 55. AWD normally has what could be considered three lsds depending on the manufacturer. One for the front, one for the transfer, and one for the rear, so the bias can change from side to side front and rear. These are built to go faster than 55, but wont help you climb a rock pile...

Your only viable option is GTR AWD system, and lots of time and cash.

Maybe transverse AWD?An sr20 drivetrain out of a Sunny. some beating on the firewall, maybe custom brewed axles? And lots of money to make it actually work.

4WD does NOT lock all four wheels. In most every stock form, only one front wheel and one rear wheel are spinning. The only way 4 wheels would spin is if you had dif lockers, as used in offroad vehicles. Some HD 4WD's come with a LSD in the rear, but never the front.

OP - The frontier has a 4x4 system, and unless you wanted to use your 240 as a offroad vehicle, it would be pretty useless for what you wana do. Your best bet would be to use the RB drivetrain. Its been done before, however with a SR. You would be getting yourself into one hell of a project though thats for sure.

Fair enough. Either way OP, if you want to turn your 240 into a rock crawler get the 4wd. If you want performance, get AWD. On the other hand, you can get two transverse SRs, and make it a twin engine AWD with no control over the front rear power bias. Like that twin engine Tiburon.
