A drunk driver took out my FD3S yesterday. I like to replace broken things with something better, so even though it's more expensive the Skyline is one of very few attractive options.

I have a coupla questions, though: 1) Can I afford it? I won't have a whole lotta extra money for repairs and such after a $400 monthly payment. My Triumph Daytona 675 is my daily driver, but I'd still need my car to be reliable.2) Is it a good idea? I don't know enough about the Skyline to tell if he's going too high on the price, if it sounds suspicious, etc.3) Can I get support? There's a rare, great rotary mechanic just 30mi. north of my house, but good Skyline mechanics might be more rare. Does the Tampa Bay area have any?

That car is awfully tempting, so I hope the good people of this forum can help me out on the answer front.

Just to let you know, you should be very careful. You are going to get flamed about how this car is not Federally legal. Also, I have see then same pictures posted in several different forums and on different craigslist locations. So if I were you, I would be very careful about purchasing that car. Before you hand any money over make sure the car is in front of you with the keys in your hand. Good Luck.

If I had the chance to purchase an R32 skyline and I knew I had the funds for it. There is no doubt, man, I'd have to go for it! What are your chances of having another opportunity? What kind of money will you get from your insurance from the accident?

The ad says "The car comes with a Florida title". Is says nothing about it being properly registered, licensed, or even what sort of title it has. Could be a salvage title, for all we know.

Avoid this like the plague. S/he might be trying to sell it because it can't be registered and posting it for sale on anything other than Craigslist would get you spotted by Skyline snipers PDQ.

Seriously guys...get over the fedrally legal crap. Most people wont even purchase a "fedral legal" skyline anymore. There are so many problems with them. A state legal JDM car is just as safe.

Unless you plan on driving it across state lines... Seriously, let's see some published laws to support your assertion. If you can produce them, flame me to your heart's content. Otherwise, STFU and go sell crazy someplace else.

Bottom line is that Fed. law > State law, unless otherwise specified.

Flame you?So what are you saying? That State legal cars are a no go? Only Fed legal are 100% legal? People are SO SO mislead with the real facts on importing. Searn Morris himself has posted about state legal cars being just that STATE LEGAL. He never flamed. I can even bring his blogs up, OR I can get him on here and he can post them for you.

Before this becomes a 6 month battle, lets just end it now. I know what I know and you know what you know. Done deal.

There is no battle. State isn't good enough. period. You buy a car that is only state registered you run the risk of losing it. period. You should not give people erroneous advice that may cause them to lose great quantities of money and the car. If you are so sure state is adequate you go risk your investment and buy it, don't risk other people's money because you have convinced yourself you know the score.

I will prob get flamed to hell and back for this, but.......Why is everyone so stuck on this federal car stuff???? If you can register it and drive it in your state and resell it (all but Cali) what is the big deal? It almost seems like propaganda for guys to keep a huge price premium on their federal cars. If you are in Cali you need a federal car and you will just have to cough up the extra cash if you live in that state and want one. If not you are just lucky and dont have to pay the extra money that living in Cali demands.
