What branch are you looking into? I'm in the Navy, so anything you want to ask I could probably help you out with regarding that.

I'm a Navigator (well I guess we're Combat Systems Officers now) in the AF.

I love my job. Sometimes it sucks, like the 14 hour days these last two weeks. There's a lot of silly government bulls*** that I don't love.

But I get paid surprisingly good money to make jokes about "penetration" and tanker probes being giant phallic symbols.

That said, had you asked me a year ago when I was an E-3 I would not have talked about the surprisingly good pay.

I'm a Sgt in the Marines so if you have any questions on that I can help. There is bs in any job and the Corps is no different except that you can't just quit. I love it though. I've been in just over four years and did two pumps to Iraq. It sucks more when you first get to the fleet as your the low man in the totem pole but with more rank comes more leeway on what you can and can't do. The first three ranks E1-3 are the hardest as far as getting the worst jobs and having little say. E4 was a fun rank although I still pulled alot of grunt work but was also accountable for the Marines under me which can get you yelled at. E5 is nice I've only been a Sgt for 6 months. I can do pretty much what ever I want as long as I let my MSgt know. The pay is better with higher rank too. The pay as an E1-3 isn't bad for a single person. And deployments can really help out alot if you save right. I say go to the recruiters and see what they say. Just remember that all branches pay the same. We don't all get the same bonuses but the base pay is the same and all of the benefits are identical. Hope this helps.

I did 22 years in the Air Force - happy to answer any questions you may have.

The first question you need to ask yourself, that is, What do you want to get out of the service? Once you know that, you can narrow down what branch and line up possibe "jobs" to apply for.

I had a great time and would do it again.
