Hey everyone,

Bit of a lurker here. I have a 2009 G37x that I've had about 6 years now... it was my first Infiniti and I've loved it. Longest I've ever actually kept a car.

It's been mostly trouble-free, with the exception of the door handles. Every winter I replace the door lock actuator mechanism in at least 2 doors. There are a lot of complaints out there for other G's with this - but basically pull the handle one day and forget it - you're not getting that door open again. I believe it's a design flaw that was never addressed.

That being said, I've got 130k now and I'm not looking to go through climbing in and out of the back seats or passenger seats another winter this year. I also have had a few 'yips' with my transmission so it's time to let 'Carmelita' go.

My general question -- how have your Q's been to you? I know it's the same engine so I'm thinking it's going to be just as reliable. I've been on the fence about basically a Q70, an FX37/QX70 and a Hyundai Genesis.

The FX/QX's are great... but the interior is really not much of an upgrade... it's almost the same as my old G which leaves me with pause spending another 20-25k on a 'new' vehicle that is almost identical inside. I'm on the fence about the Hyundai... I like the looks and all the newer technology in it (including the ability to add android Auto) - but... it's still a Hyundai.

And lastly we have the Q70... I found a '15 with the sport package and the Silver Ash Trim in white. I normally hate white cars, but this car looks good in it. It's also got the tech package with the blind spot/cruise/braking safety systems which would be nice to have. Those of you with these features -- do you find them helpful or do you end up shutting them off?

Thanks for any thoughts anyone is willing to offer. :bigthumb:

One other question - those of you in states where you get a good amount of snow (I"m in Buffalo) -- assuming if you have the 20's your best bet is putting on 18's with snows... how's the Q in the snow? With the right tires, my G has been great... but I worry with even going up to 18's.

What's the narrowest size I can go with for snows on the 18" rims?

I have a 13 M37x with stock 18 inch rims.
I run pirelli cinturato p7 a/s 245/50R18.
They are fantastic in snow. Last chicago winter I drove on unplowed roads with at least 10 inches on the ground with full confidence. Heck I felt I could race a jeep Cherokee and win. That's how confidence inspiring the pirelli are.

I haven't run 20 inch trims in winter, but I'm sure someone on here has.

2015 Q70 owner here, that I purchased as a CPO with 17K miles over a year and half ago. My Q70 has been an absolute dream after driving an unreliable vehicle for several years. I understand that a year and half of ownership may not much of a track record to go off of, but again, coming from a brand new vehicle that gave me problems practically from day one, my Q70 has had zero problems.
I have all of the tech features you referenced and they do come in handy & I’ve not switched anything off.

I did plenty of research prior to my Q70 purchase, and overall, the reviews for reliability were good, with the only negative being the handling... so ditch the factory Bridgestones as soon as possible - assuming the one your interested in still has them.

Oh ... one more thing. The wife liked my Q70 so much we picked her up a 2017 CPO Q70 in May.
She was in a 2010 Acura TSX which also gave us zero problems, but she enjoyed my Q70 so much she wanted one of her own.

Can’t help you much with the tire question as it relates to snow, as I’m in Louisiana.

Hope this helps you some in your decision & best of luck to you with your purchase.

Hey Hey...don't be so quick to say "they're the same engine." Step into the Q70, possibly step into the 5.6L....I wouldn't trade mine for the world, this engine just screams. The transmission is weak, sometimes confused, but the engine is a total monster.

As for turning the features "off," in fact it's the other way around. My M56s is fully loaded, and you actually press a button to turn ON the distance control and lane guidance. I find this perfect, as it is often annoying in the wrong circumstances. The default of having it off and turning it on is far better.

That being said, wow, do I love this car. I've had it 6 months since 13.5k and put almost 10k on it, and I love it more every day.

My wife and I had a 2009 G37 for about 2 1/2 years. I really enjoyed that car. Even though it’s a small car it actually has decent room inside (I’m 6’2” 200+). We’ve had a couple of cars in between so I didn’t go directly to the Q70 but I really enjoy driving it everyday in the month and a half that I’ve owned it. It’s definitely an upgrade from the G as far quality, craftsmanship, style and features. I can’t speak to your question about snow since I live in FL but it’s good in the rain (I have AWD). Also, I don’t have the tech package unfortunately. It is the same engine but the G is a smaller, lighter car so the Q is not as fast but as long as you’re not racing everything in sight you’ll love it. If not, go for the V8.
