It's been a few years since I've had any stereo equipment in my cars. Cause it kept getting stolen. For some reason I feel the urge to get back into it. The truck I just bought has a decent deck with detachable face plate and some decent 5-1/4s in the doors. Good quality sound, but of course lacking bass. The last system I had was JL (two 15in W0s in a sealed box with an e class monoblock jl amp pushing 225rms at 4ohms at 14.4 volts. Was plenty for the 15s that could handle a max of 150rms. Sounded great!I haven't kept up with the game, so I'm wondering if jl is still the shiit so to speak. I noticed that their lineup changed a bit. But still looks good. I fear that they may have been bought out and possibly turned to crap. I know far fetched, but remember when Rockford Fosgate was and now their shiit is junk, no offense to anyone that owns their newer stuff, but If you only knew what they were about in the 90s. Their amps were incredible and highly underrated, now it's quite the opposite. So what I'm thinking about is quite small because I have a regular cab truck and don't have much space. And also because it's cheap and if it gets stolen I won't be missing out on much. I also prefer sound quality over quantity.Sub:http://www.crutchfield.com/App...avf=NA ... =NPossibly this one because I want to make sure I'm not underpowering the subhttp://www.crutchfield.com/App...avf=NI think the mono block may sound better, but maybe not because the 2 channel puts out more power?Any help appreciated! Thanks for reading all that.

For the money, you can do better than JL.

Also, for sub use (although 8" is more of a midbass than a sub), get a class-D amp. They're more efficient than a Class A, AB, B, G, and H (my favorite)...although their are some esoteric/exotic topologies coming out (came out) that will closely rival the classD. The thing to think about is efficiency. Your car has a limited amount of electrical power, so you want to waste as little as possible.

Also, that sub you picked out is 4ohms. If you want to get the most power from your amp, get a 2chan and bridge it.

Good to know JL is still good. I'm leaning toward the 10inch now since I just scored a couple 250/1. I'm trying to get my buddy to buy one cause he always buys some off brand crap and wonders why it sounds like ***. We hooked em' up today to see if they still worked fine and he was like "damn that hits hard, I barely have it turned up" He was afraid it was going to blow his e-class alpines, haha.

Has it always been? Just random stuff or something specific?

Some of their stuff is still made in the states, though I think it's their high end stuff. W7 woofers and their home audio (w7 based) subwoofers. Their is likely more stuff, but I don't keep track of what all is and isn't made in the states by them. I do know the coax's I got for my (ex)GF's car were made in china.

The A Series amps have been replaced by G series. As stated above, the 8" is 4ohm. With a 4 ohm 8", I would use the G4500 instead of the two amps you listed -or- change sub to a 10W3v3-2ohm. For 8", JL's ported enclosures work well too. Different models are built different places.W3v3, W6v2, W7, TW5 made in U.S.A.Some mids & highs germany, some asiaJust too expensive for most companies to build amps here unfortunately. Always has been good stuff. Still is good stuff. There will always be "the new hotness" but JL continues to make good stuff even after "the new hotness" is no longer hot. As for crutchfield, you can get a better deal locally.

from what i've been seeing/reading lately, their amps are still pretty good and are still underrated. their subs however have gone to crap. a lot of mechanical noise.

i'm still rockin my pair of HE2s and they sound great. part of the lineup before they went to crap.
