So I was set on getting a Acura RL for the awd and good prices used, then I saw a 2006 white m35x and really consider changing my mind to the m35x. Apart from the wood grain there isnt a single thing to the untrained eye that I do not like about this car. This is were I need help- I have done the research on the RL and know the trouble spots and what to look for, I have a short time frame to get a new car and wanted to know opinions from owners of the m35x, trouble spots to look for, recalls, extended warranties, if 06 is a bad year, reliability is my top concern.

any help is appreciated!

There seems to be a lot of people posting on the board requesting opinions regarding the M35x. I'm curious why people are considering this vehicle. Is it because they are of the opinion that it will perform significantly better in the snow? Are they trying to get AWD SUV performance in a sedan? Very curious....

i am looking because i live in wisconsin and it likes to snow here, and i think awd with snow tires would have quite the advantage over a rwd car

There are some posts around here someplace that describe in fairly good detail how the AWD works... You can only "lock" it in AWD at speeds under 15MPH I believe. Other than that the torque split is entirely calculated by the computer and at speeds over 45 MPH I believe it is 100% RWD.

I got one as a rental when I was in FL on business last summer and drove it on very wet roads in thunderstorms... granted it wasn't snow, but I didn't notice much of an advantage over the RWD under those circumstances.

Anyone else chime in?

I myself bought a used 06 white m35x.

*LOVE* IT!

I also bought the extended warranty from Infiniti for piece of mind, but am regretting it slightly now.

Consumer reports has the m35 as the most reliable car in it's class, beating out BMW/MB/et al.

Make sure you test drive it and take it to a Infiniti Dealer and pull the service records on it. That will tell you a lot about what you're buying.

I was lucky and my car has been babied since day 1, not missing a single inspection. It was in a rear end collision but it was repaired by Infiniti, so all is good there.

Do the due diligence, pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

I also chose mine over the Acura. Acura didn't seem as luxurious.

If reliability is your top concern, you've come to the right place. Consumer Reports ranks the M in the top 3 out of 5 spots in its Reliability Ratings. It doesn't get any better than that!!

For the longest time, I thought I wanted an RL too. Having driven two Honda Accords (really great cars) over the course of more than 19 years, it was only logical to step up to an Acura.

I test deove an '05 RL with 25K on it. The only word I can think of to describe the experience was "boring". It's a nice car and all, but I felt like I was driving my old Accord with a fancy interior. I was REALLY disappointed. When I drove the M it was a night and day difference (for me anyway). If you want a smooth, quiet and "sedate" luxury car then, then the RL will be your choice. If you want a performance, sporty, fun to drive luxury car, then the M should be your choice. Drive both and you will see what I mean.

As for reliability, both are excellent but I believe the Nissan V6 to be among the best motors on the market.
