I've been thinking about replacing fr/r struts on my ,92 240.Is this a very difficult procedure? Should I just pay through the nose to have it done?

Also, how do you go about refreshing the gear oil in the 5 spd.

Thanks for any response.

Haven't done the rears but the fronts are no big deal IF YOU ARE CARFULL!The springs contain a DEADLY amount of energy and you MUST use the proper tools. Coil Spring compressers are not expensive and worth the cost. Otherwise not a bad job.

For the gear oil, just drain and replace. The drain is on the bottom and the fill is on the drivers side about halfway up. Some find it easier to remove the fill plug and then remove the shifter and add the fluid through the shifter untill it comes out the fill hole. Depends on how easy for you to remove the shifter.

the spring compressor can be loaned out at autozone. you can buy a hand vacuum pump to put the new fluid in the transmission.

Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. I've heard a rumor that a product called Lucas oil stabilizer would be of big benefit to add. Ever heard of it?

Lucas sells a complete line of oil and gas aditives. They are fairly popular with the racing crowd here on the west coast. I have used the gear oil and engine oil additives along with the injector cleaner in both race cars (240sx) and my personal cars with no ill effects.

I have not done an indepth anallisis of it but I like it.

It seams that Seafoam is popular on the East coast and Lucas on the West. I think they are basicly competitors in the same market.
