so im thinking about getting an SR cause im tired of driving bone stock worn out KA's.

but i was wondering since they are used motors how many people have swapped the sr in only to find out that it has problems?

alot of my friends have sr's and out of all of them only one of them is still left with a running motor that hasnt taken a dump yet, which they have said because our local motor importer buys crap motors, and are a little shady, which i wouldnt doubt because they sold my friend a motor with a broken off oil pump pickup tube.

and i know what your thinking but these motors were installed correctly, yes a few of them were in track cars but others were in dd's, and im a little bit affraid now because i dont want to spend all that money just to be left with a blown motor a few months down the road.

and this will be in my dd/weekend track car

so if other people have had problems buying from the local importer, doesnt it make sense to NOT buy from him. sr20 engine are so popular now, there are SO many places you can buy them from.

And you dont have to worry about a crap engine. You can prevent this by buying from a reputable buyer. Reputable buyers only pick out the best engines so usually you wont have any problems.

actually our local importer is a vendor on this site, and the only reason why i was even considering them is because i dont like buying motors without seing them first, and it would save me a bunch of money on shipping since i could just pick it up

I agree, I was a scared to let go of that money too even though I went through someone reputable and whom people I know have dealt with before. I guess sometimes buying a SR is like making them dices go clack, clack, clackkity, clack!

Luckily through the use of technology you can SEE what you buy before you get it.

When buying an SR from ANYWHERE you should always demand pictures and compression test results. Have them take as many pics as possible! Most companies should be able to provide you with compression test results and I know that some companies go as far as sending you a video of the test being performed.

That being said, I recommend JHOT. I bought my motor set from them and was very happy with their customer service. I noticed in pics they sent me that my motorset didn't have a MAF. After I called them they ended up sending me not only a MAF with Blitz air filter attached, but everying needed to get the swap running (stock SMIC w/ piping, 180sx fuel pump, downpipe).

Don't get in a rush to order a motorset. Search on NICO for reviews of importers and narrow your choices down.

We also have a thread dedicated to giving feedback concerning places to buy motors from. It's linked in the FAQ.
