Cheers from Panama. I'm thinking about getting a Versa (Tiida here).

I currently own a Hyundai Tiburon 2.0 MT. But I'm looking for something more spacious, with better MPG and a good response. I like my girlfriend's Tiida Hatchback 1.6 MT. Suspension is really soft, it is a quite ride, great MPG and it has a lot of space compared to my Tib. I wonder if the MPG difference between 1.6 and 1.8 would be huge... or if it is worth it.

And... is it really difficult to swap an AT with a MT in a 1.8?

I get 32-33 mpg in my 1.8L hatch in the USA. I think most have seen ~30mpg or more with their 1.8L. There isn't too much difference between the milage of the 1.8L and 1.6L. I fyou want something a little more sporty, along the lines of your 2.0L Tiburon, I'd get the 1.8L. There are a lot more aftermarket parts available for the 1.8L right now too.

The swap hasn't been done yet from At to MT that I know of. It shouldn't be too difficult, but if you're going to buy one I'd get the MT if that's what you want. It'll be far less of a headache to get the MT instead of trying a swap down the road.

Thank you for the information and quick response!!

I'm mainly looking for a confortable, economic daily driver. Here the driving is like 95% city and 5% highway.

I get from my Tib about 18MPGs, and I don't floor it or have crazy driving habits (not above 3000RPM or 110km/h)... so MPG is getting pretty bad for the use I give to the car.

The 1.6L is not so bad, but I wanted to know if maybe 1.8L will offer a better response or performance without decreasing so much the MPG on my driving conditions.

Locally they have the 1.6L in all Tiida models, no 1.8L neither MT or AT. I'll be importing the 1.8L in any case.

Cheers!
