Well, I have a 1992 240sx, and am starting to look for a new exhaust for it. The stock one is starting to rust and it barely passed inspection

So, I am looking for a new exhaust system... be aware that I am a complete noob with cars and will definitely get it installed at a local shop. I want something that sounds deeper than all those Civics you see around; the BRM's sound is ideal. Anything recommended on a low budget?

oem if you're only looking to pass smog.

custom piping if you're looking for hp.

universal can if you're looking for looks.

most of the catback exhaust made in japan that are stainless steel are of good quality though with nice hp/tq gains. theres so many i can't even count. probably near 50+ exhaust manufacturers. depends on what type you want and how much $ u wanna fork.

you can support nico with a brm if you'd like.

Well, I want a BRM, but can't really afford it plus the install.

Mostly what I'm looking for is a dual-tip that sounds good and is pretty cheap. My max price as of now, including install, would be ~$300-350, so that probably narrows it down a lot. Dualtip BRMs are around $450, right?

well you live in florida, so its your call on aluminum or stainless...and price also depends on the diameter you want which i didnt see you mention

if you want a 2.25" or 2.5" in aluminum then itd run you $475, $330 for the system, $70 for the resonator, $30 for the dual tips, and $45 for shipping

i paid $575 to get a 2.5" dual tip stainless with the resonator, and its worth every penny...for a while i was seriously considering what you are thinking price wise, but then i just waited a bit longer and i couldnt be happier with my decision

BRM is better than the Japanese systems, because it makes more power with less volume, plain and simple...itll fit better too, and you can go direct to Greg with any problems if need be

I went with the exact same system and feel the exactly the same way. I've been complimented many times on how good it sounds by people here at the Cadillac dealer where I work, and they're pretty jaded when it comes to cars.

It also not only comes down to what product you want, but with whom you want to do business. I am a big believer in doing business with people you know and trust and keeping "in the family" if at at possible.

What other exhaust company could you talk directly to the CEO if you had a problem???

Look into Apexi, HKS, I know Apexi makes a dual tip exhaust.

A personal favorite and one not to many know, Espelir. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they are Jasma certified. (meaning they're quite) Last time I saw one the muffler was straight, not angled. Nice looks with a nice sound with a 3 year warranty. When I go to buy a system for the coupe, this will most likely be my choice.

If you're looking to save money, check the classifieds section here on NICO. There's bound to be someone who wants to unload his or her exhaust for pretty cheap.

if you pay somone to install an exhaust for you, you should probably just sell your car. if you want cheap exhaust go for an ebay catback, the n1 dual copies get down to 150 shipped. although i cant reccomend n1 dual or similar, its like 5 pounds heavier than stock. completely ridiculous.

Why? Not all of us have welding tools.

well exhaust installs are really easy. Dont be that intimidated. Why dont you get the ssautochrome dual n1 replica? My friend bought one for ~200 shipped, MUCH cheaper than how much i've spent on my brm.

They're NOT always really easy. When you don't have bolts that have fused together, everything lines up perfectly, hangers aren't jacked up and you ENJOY laying on your back, sure it's fairly easy. But if any/all of those things occur, it becomes a royal PITA quickly. Not to mention if you run into a defective cat once you have hacked off the old exhaust. If you don't happen to have one handy, then the car is stuck there until you get one and then there is the matter of putting it all together correctly.

It's easy to do a halfassed job, but doing it right isn't always easy. If you don't believe me, you have never done an install on an old, high-mile car.

And don't take this as me cracking on you, but with exhaust systems you usually get what you pay for. There is no 3 inch, mandrel-bent, stainless steel exhaust for $200. Pay for garbage and that's what you'll get.

SSAutochrome and Megan Racing are pretty close to $200... shipping usually kills the deal, and both of those are full SS catbacks with decent fit. Dunno bout piping diameter, likely 2.5" if not 3"

Maybe that guy just got lucky?

Installing an exhaust system is easy if you don't mind exhaust leaks, bad fitment and general crappiness. Even exhausts designed for our cars won't go on 100% perfect.

I threw mine on and pretended not to care about my 3100 RPM exhaust leak (which sucks because I almost ALWAYS got to hear it before shifting up) but then eventually paid an exhaust shop $80 to do it right. It was worth it... now I can drive around busy parking lots without pretending not to notice all the "WTF?" stares I was getting. LOL

The single tip SS Autochromes = Uras exhaust. Built by the same factory. Double tips, dunno they look a bit hokey to me.

Personally I stand by my 5zigen Proracer. Sounds awesome, fit is good, looks good, and dyno proven!

Yeah, I know bolt-on exhausts will probably be easy, but I won't know if that's what I'll be getting. I'll probably save up for the BRM...

240DRFT.. what is that white car in your sig?im lovin' it..

i dunno.. there were hks catback systems that were near 550-600 shipped..i'd imagine there wouldnt be much differences if you mandrelbent/whatever bent your tubing to be identical to the hks/apexi/whatever name brand exhaust..

basically... i'd have to say you're paying for the name.. and the shiny exhaust with HKS HI-POWER or whatever stamped on it.

i dont mean to bust on brm or anything.. but its basically tubing bent by someone we all know, whether it be mandrel/bent/welded, its same thing..stainless steel , bent, made to fit. if you so wish, you can make a mockup of your own with the least restriction possible and take it to a muffler/exhaust shop to fab one for ya.. it'll probably be around 200-400(at max)..

all a personal choice... honestly, i was looking to buy the hks hi-power for myself... but rationality hit my mind and im going to a local steel shop to get some 3" stainless steel pipes and mock up my own and take it to the local bike shop or muffler shop

all a personal choice!

to bling or not to bling!

babowc...Yeah, that seems like the best bet for me. There is a local muffler/exhaust shop that will make a custom install. Do I only need 2.5" steel since I am working with a regular KA? I'm not thinking about turboing it anytime soon. Also, is there a specific dualtip muffler that you recommend using with it (and what dualtip does Greg use for BRM)?

Edit: Yeah, it's an NSX. http://www.nsxprime.com/photop..._.JPG. Beautiful car.

All I have ever owned is Apexi Dual N1s on both my S13 and S14, it sounds good But I could do without the weight. It also a pain the the *** to work on anything under the car because the thing is huge. I do like my friends HKS Hi Power exhaust.
