im thinking of getting this as my first car. What i want to know is what problems im gonna have to look out for. Im currently looking at this 86 Z31 non turbo. I know that the 84-89 Z31's got a fuel injector recall warning. I want to know how common this problem is with Z31's.

heres a ling to the car. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...st=12

the injector recall isn't a big deal so long as it's done, I had a car that caught fire before the recall, and that is a clean 86, but the wheels are a bit bling for my taste, I'd look for a turbo 87.5-89 model, the price shouldn't be much more and you get a power boost as well as a factory LSD

yes, i DO hate the wheels, but i guess i can live with em at that price. i want to see if i can find an 88 turbo before i can get my license. i should have enough money saved by then i hope.

That car looks super clean! But as the others said....a different set of wheels would make it a lot better.

Welcome to NICO btw

What is the mileage? It was unlisted. You should find out and than you can figure out how much you'll need to spend on it right away.

Also, there are no airbags as it lists in the ad. The recall is probably done or it would have roasted by now.

Find out mileage and we can help you from there, also I'd get someone to look it over. I lived in San Diego for a long time, I bought my 84' there brand new. There is a guy in La Mesa called Z Whizz, would be worth it to have him take a look before you buy any SD-based Z.

Why? Mileage doesn't mean **** if you really know what to look for.

Which would you rather have?1) Car with 200,000 miles and regular tune ups and oil changes2) Car with 50,000 miles and no maintenance done to date (including oil changes)

i agree with that, but im still gonna try and fine one at least inder 200,000 just to be safe.

Thats true though. I dont think it really matters the milage as long as you know what happened to the car so you are aware of what to fix. i think.... i dont know im still pretty noob at cars.

milage matters if it's due for a timing belt, if there is no documentation of the timing belt having been done, plan on spending some money, if the belt pops you lose

Agreed, with no documentation on an older Z you should immediately find a good mechanic and replace the timing belt, water pump, and cam seals. Also check to see if the power steer is leaking or if the rack has been replaced, that is a classic.

also carefully look for rust, the best place to look to see if there is rust is to open up the spare tire well and take out the spare, if there is rust under there you know that the rust has already started. Many of them have rust there, so you need to see if it is localized under there or all over the place. I have garaged my 84' nearly 95% of its life but sure enough I had the evil rust there, but I caught it and paid a body shop to chop out the well and put in stainless steel
