Agreed, with no documentation on an older Z you should immediately find a good mechanic and replace the timing belt, water pump, and cam seals. Also check to see if the power steer is leaking or if the rack has been replaced, that is a classic.
also carefully look for rust, the best place to look to see if there is rust is to open up the spare tire well and take out the spare, if there is rust under there you know that the rust has already started. Many of them have rust there, so you need to see if it is localized under there or all over the place. I have garaged my 84' nearly 95% of its life but sure enough I had the evil rust there, but I caught it and paid a body shop to chop out the well and put in stainless steel
