Thinking about selling my 240sx. Its the car ive always wanted but now that i have one i cant afford the expensive parts.

It ran rich so i replaced the fuel pressure regulator, put in NGK platinums, cap n rotor. Had a leaky valve cover gasket so i replaced that. Now its running worse and I just cant afford this hobby anymore as a broke a$$ student.

Unfortunately i will probably go back to driving a cheap yet reliable honda. Maybe I will get a 240 when i have time and money to buy and install the hard to find expensive parts.

Heres some pics of the dream car im parting with.

The VIN is JN1MS34P0PW304217 if yall wanna check the history. I havent even done it yet.

peace out fellas!

Not to be a d!ck or anything, but you've spent what, $100 on repairs and you're giving up on a 240? You're kidding, right?

Put in some time on the technical boards, research any other problems you've got - if it's running bad, chances are someone on the boards has the solution. I can't tell you how many times the tech forums saved my butt with my last car.

Broke *** student or not, you've got a great car, and you've gotten a good start on the maintenance - keep it up, don't give up, and persevere.

FYI - I ran the carfax on your ride - it looks good, but there's an odometer discrepancy - looks like you either had an engine swap and an odo rollback a while ago, or you're pushing 280,000 miles on this puppy.

I doubt someone would roll the odo back 100,000 miles, but hey - stranger things have happened.

Let me know if you want a copy of your carfax - i can email it to you if you like.

i hear ya man the platinums were 11.00 a piece 44 bucks

fuel pressure regulator 90 bucks

valve cover gasket 40 bucks

cap n rotor 20 bucks

so im up to 194 bucks plus several hours under the hood installing parts, and cleaning that freakin aiv

when i get some money saved up i will take it to a NIssan mechanic to have it diagnosed. i can figure out whats wrong with it.

Does it have a digital speedo? Maybe he replaced the gauge cluster. They have a habit of sucking.

if its running rich, its probably a maf problem.

check the harness grounds, the connector at the maf, and the maf itself.

Gee, you're throwing parts at the problem without actually diagnosing it, and you're complaining about wasting money?

Revelation.

The problem is likely either your TPS or coolant temperature sensor. Also, ditch the platinum plugs.

no problem. i would look at the maf system first.

if it was the coolant temp sensor or throttle sensor, you would have other driveability problems [like hard starting, hesitation, ect].

get it scanned. the nissan dealer would probably be best, because you want a reading of what the sensors are reporting, not just trouble codes.

Yeah for sure. Actually it does stumble when i hit the gas and it is very hard to start my car. Its weird because my motor acts like its starved for gas so I have to throttle it a lot just to get it started but then when it is started it runs very rich. Is this a normal maintenance issue with tha ka24de motor on the 240?

in that case, i would change the CTS [coolant temp sensor - 2 wire] just for the hell of it. get it from the DEALER. its should only be around $20-30

make sure to tell dealer you want the TWO wire sensor for the ecu.

the one wire sensor is for the dash gauge.

clean the MAF connector pins [if needed] sometimes a good connection is made just by unplugging and reconnecting the harness.

also, find the harness grounds. remove the bolt and clean the connector and mounting surface.

not sure where the harness grounds on the 240 are. there will usually be wires that come out of the harness [that has the injector wires] and go directly to metal.
