Hey guys, I am in the market for a 4th gen Maxima SE 5spd. I found this on AutoTrader, the only thing I dont like is the mileage. I am not sure what good is on a Maxima or now long they will run. This car would be mostly used to go the 3-4 miles and back to work everyday but I also drive 100 miles to Knoxville, Tn from London, KY about every week. I need something that will hold up. I am thinking it just depenends on how it runs. Also, if something did happen, how much does a new...or used but good condition VQ(I think thats what is in there) motor normally cost?

Thanks guys.. Mav

That price is outstanding, but more a reflection on the mileage. 250k miles is a lot even for the VQ. You should be able to get an idea on used motor prices through http://www.car-parts.com . I would be more concerned with the transmission if it were to go bad, since 5 speeds are not too common and very expensive.

If it were me, I would continue looking and pay more for one with less miles.

Heh, thats what I was kinda thinking the more I looked at it. Thanks...Let me know if you can find any.. I am trying to stay as close (lower is always better) to 3k as I can. I'm still not too sure what 4th gens normally go for.

For $3000 you should be able to find a 4th Gen with 150k mile or less. You will have to keep an eye out for a 5 speed. Be patient, and I'm sure you'll run across a good deal.

Try auto trader, and check newspaper classifieds online in surrounding areas (Nashville, Lexington, etc).

I agree. don't be too scared to go across the country for a car. I had a great trip from San Jose to Alabaster in a 1994 Q45 last year. I would love to do it again. I am looking in Colorado or Montanna for a car, now.

250k miles is a lot of miles. It really all depends on how well it was taken care of. I've got 215k miles on mine and she runs sweeter than most cars with a third of the milage. If you get one that hasn't been well cared for though, you could be in for problems. The amazing thing is that for being the best 3.0L V6 ever built in the world, they're also very inexpensive and you can usually pick one up for about $300.
