I have a 90' 240sx with the KA24E (SOHC). THere seems to be a rattling sound in the front of the valve cover like the timing chain rubbing. I heard about similar problems with the DOHC model, but could there be a problem with the chain guide/tensioner with my SOHC engine? Every time it revs up or down it makes that rubbing/rattling sound inside the valve cover. Could anyone tell me how to fix it or who could fix it? How much would it cost?

Thanks Guyz/Galz,

Chris K.

you dont have to drain your oil. there is a cover plate over the timing chain and these are know to get loose or brake up. i would assume that this is the rattle you described. i have a DOHC and its not excessable by removing the valve cover anyhow though i dont know about SOHC. but i know a few people that have found the broken up cover plate in there oil pan. also if you take off your valve cover i recomend replacing the gasket when you put it back on.
