leaded gasoline stopped being used on cars as it destroyed the catalytic converters. Seeing as how you have no cat, you should be fine.

i've heard stories that it did, but tons of people in the Z31 community use leaded race gas on their cars w/ the stock O2 sensor. i wouldn't let it scare me.

That's a good answer aries, exactly what I was going to say. Now as to the advantages of racing fuel. You dont just put it in and then have more hp, the main benifit is not from the higher energy fuel (?sometimes?) but the higher octain allows you to turn up the boost without pre-ignition. I know multiple people who run 20+ psi on race fuel where they could not do that on pump gas. Now I am not saying you put race fuel in then you should turn your boost up threw the roof these guys have fully built motors.

then why race gas? he could POSSIBLY get pre-ignition at high rpm...doubtfully w/ that setup though...

When you burn leaded gas a small percent of the lead in the gas goes in particulate form in the air and it will redeposit itself on anything it can and coat it. Most of the lead will coat your pistons an cylender walls filling in pits first so this is not a bad thing. However most of that will not stay very long due to the additives in current fuel will strip the lead back out eventually. However the lead in you exhaust will not be stipped back out and will build up. So the O2 sensor which sticks out is a prime place for lead to deposite itself and the more it becomes coated with lead the less it will work. So think about race gas like smoking, it feels good when you are using it but if you use it too much you can damage important parts.

as for why race gas would help him, I have would say mostly it is just psycological and the differance is only miniscule maybe a change in timing but I wont expect to see major differances.
