My donor Q ran fine before I yanked the engine. Pulled the pan off tonight to modify it to rear sump, and lookee what I found:

Just a few pieces of many.

Who knows, those may have been replaced by metal ones and the chunks are from before the replacement. lol If it ran before you took it apart you're probably good.

Good point, but I'll bet they're original. Blue sealant and all.

Wrong presumption! At the very least, you need to verify and inspect the oil pump! Who knows what was taken up through the oil pickup?

Or make sure hot idle after 25 miles of high rpm is greater than 14 psi with fresh oil and new filter. The slack/stretch of oil chain can tell you how mistreated the oil/engine was, should always be replaced, along with sprocket.

If it was taken up through the oil pickup it was smaller than a mm due to the screen keeping trash from being sucked up. Even still, the oil pump is a gear pump and would grind up the plastic like butta if not caught by the filter.

I wasn't trying to tell anyone to ignore the trash in the pan, just trying to say that someone may have replaced them before and just left the pieces in the pan.
