well, heres the story. i went on my lunch break and took the ol 240 out for a spin. theres this nice set of roads behind where i work and i decided to push her a little. i have 200,000 miles on my ka and i've been expecting it to go any time soon. but anyways, i made a run down the road and turned around to come back, when i was on my way up a hill under heavy throtle the rpm gauge did a belly flop, the check engine light came on and the motor lost all power. i pulled over and realized i had to get back to work soon so i ran over to visually check the motor and i couldnt see, smell or hear (when i tryed to start it again) wrong. i tryed starting it again and after a short period of time under full throttle it would start, but would randomly die and i had to pat the gas to keep it anywhere close to alive. i'm going to check the code its throwing up tomarrow, but i was wondering if these syntoms sound like anything diagnosable. the motor seemed to put down a usual amount of power when i could get it into gear and driving for thoes small amounts of time inbetween stalling so hopefully it wasnt a ring. when pushing a motor like that i always assume that if something breaks its something big. i dont know what it would feel like if i spun a rod or burnt a piston ring but if anyone has an idea of what it could be any help would be awesome so i know if i need to call a recker or not.

p.s. if it is something big, i guess i'll have a new hks exhaust up for sale.

cant really think of anything that may have happened. id say get a compression tester and go get a reading.but you didnt say you were smoking, knocking, or anything. maybe you were low on gas and going up the hill starved the engine?not sure.

that loss of power and hard starting sounds like a spark problem...check your grounds/battery and your spark plugs..when is the last time you changed them out?

ok, i got a friend to take me to where i left my car the other day and after trying to decript the 97 fsm i had laying around (my cars a 96 but nissan odb2 is odb2 right?) i finnaly figgured out how to pull codes. i was getting eight .6 second flashes and two .2 second flashes, break, one long, two short, break two long, one short and then it would start over, so i gathered 0802, 0102 and 0201 which comes out as being:crank position sensor mass air flow sensor ign signal-primary

i'm getting it towed back to my house tomarrow so we can start checking things i'd figgured i'd throw that out there if anyone has an idea

Before you tow it, that kind of sounds like what I had..

The starting problem, which was just the mass air flow sensor..

All you do, is take the metal clip off the plug on the air filter, pull that up, and reseat it, then try to crank it...

If you see a lot of corrosion, use electionics cleaner with very very fine sand paper (emory cloth??)

Let us know how it goes.
