I had to pull the engine and transmission to fix a broken clutch pivot among other things. I've been pretty much out of the loop as far as the 240sx for a few years already (hopefully there's something new I've missed) so I'd like a few suggestions before putting it back in.

So far:Emissions deleteoil seals and pan redo (remind me which ones plz)maybe alternator upgradebeltspivot boltpilot bushing (been driving w/o one)steering boot replacementsubframe "nismo" mod (maybe)steering column bushing

plz redirect to old threads if necessary.

more:port head; intake and exhaust (have to figure out how to do it while on engine (I'm guessing at TDC i can prevent anything moving into the cylinder)

port manifold intake and exhaustbroken injector (ok i'm using this post as a reminder at this point)

Mods plz move to ka24de section, may have more hits there.

Those sound like great ideasI would also:-scrub the bay.-take care of any hard to reach rust. (along the wheel wells etc)-replace the power steering line if you have it. -replace any clutch/brake lines. (I need to replace my front left one)

as for those belts, I like those michelin gatorback belts, $15-$17 a piece but soooooo worth it.

oh another thing that might help is new injector o-rings. my injector #1 has a itty bitty leak so that's a cheap and easy thing to do.and new motor mounts if you haven't already.scrubbing the engine would also look better in a clean bay

thanks guys, keep them coming.

to whomever suggested, I don't want to do headwork that requires the head off, 'cuz knowing me full well, I'll be replacing head gasket, piston rings, bearings, grinding and balancing rods, honing, checking clearances and tolerances, etc.., and a simple pivot bolt that should've taken a few days and a few bucks turns into a blueprinted block with a few 100's out of pocket.. At this point it's all about KISS.

longblock's staying intact, I may spray it w/high temp paint however. I'll do a wrinkle finish on the cover too.

Might have to rebuild/replace pcv valve. f**ed pcv may explain the worn valve cover and crank seals.

I would just replace ALL the seals and gaskets mainly and check timing chain condition. Clean engine bays are ultra sexy. Have 2 cans of brake clean in ur hands and attack the motor.

yep, pcv seems fubar. There's a bunch of gunk in there. I don't want to make a catch can setup, so I'll have to replace that thing. Anyone know what's the deal w/the box that surrounds it?

....why would you NOT replace all the gaskets while the engine is out?It doesn't take long, and then you are set for a good amount of time.if you are trying to keep it simple, just do a stock rebuild.New rings, new bearings, clean the tops of the pistons, lap all the valves and slap on new valve seals, replace all the gaskets. Then you are set to go, and only out about 200 bucks or so.

it's my brother's car. Since I broke the bolt, i'm just fixing the basics, let him get dirtier. So far i'll have to replace the intake gaskets (brittle and broken), the valve cover gasket and the front and rear crank gaskets.

And a proper rebuild is all valve guides and valve gaskets, valves, piston rings, timing gears and chain, etc,etc... it's a bit more than 200 the way I would do it, plus there's the time factor.

Daily driver, I'm leaving the crumple zones alone.
