Things to check when taking delivery

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Any suggestions as to what to check when taking delivery of the vehicle?

Things I usually look for are paint & dents. It makes me 'feel bad' when the salesman standing next to me while I'm checking for their 'mistakes'. Never feel good about it (just trying to be nice) but it's my advantage to check.

What if say the leather is damaged, do you have the right to demand a new one from the factory? Can the dealer offer to fix it at a local shop w/out shipping a completely new part from the factory but you refuse this option but demanded for a new part? What about paint chips etc?

Regards

Take your time to check everything!don't feel rushed.this is what hppened to me.I made all my deals over the phone, when I went in, they briefly show me the car. then took me to the finciance dept to sign the paper work.I never even saw the window sticker to make sure I am paying for all the right equiptments I wanted.half way through the paper work, I asked for the Equiptment/option list on this car. the finance guy and the sales peopel started to run a around trying to look for it. I told them I just wanted to make sure I am signing a contract for the right car. as they were looking for all the info, we have discovered the following...

1. the VIN on the contract and the EX35 they cleaned up and drove up for me to take home doesn't match!!!

2. one of the $200 option that the sales manager told me over the phone wasn't even installed on the car.

so they had to redo the paperwork all over again to correct the VIN, and then credit me $200 for the missing equipment that wasn't even there.$200 isn't a big deal, but still its about a month worth of gas money.and wrong VIN??? most people usually doesn't verify the VIN before they take the car home. but that's a big issue!!! if you had the wrong VIN registered under you name...that can be a lot of problems down the road!!!

so TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! check every thing!!!

Have any TSB's done prior to pick up. My dealer promised all TSB's were done, but 2 were still outstanding.

In-state inspection sticker; car had NY's and dealer said it's fine for NJ (my residence), which was not the case. I ended up having to get inspected in NJ myself.

Title should have bank's name also on it. I had a month-long ordeal to get dealer to redo it.

Any options, such as rubber cargo mat and roof cross-bars. I had to go back 2 weeks later to get cross-bars installed. The "I'll throw it in" wheel locks never got received/installed.

Oil stain in rear center armrest. I thought it'd be easily cleaned, but I couldn't get it out.

My washer fluid reservoir was empty the next day.

If the auto-up window feature doesn't work, you need to put the car in Acc mode and hold window-up button for >5 sec. Dealer had said it's not possible.

I read some of your posts from flashzoom that 2010s comes w/ a tray in the center console? What else should be there? Small things that are loose / not attached could be lost in action somewhere....

so far all i found was the Tray missing. some said it didn't come with the 2010 models, but it is listed in the user's manual, and did not specify it is optional. so I am going to assume it is standard, unless there are documents says other wise.

Do you mean something like the dark blotch on the plastic in the picture below?

Another question for you all....

If for whatever reason you find something that is damaged...e.g paint chip / scratch, do we have the right to deny acceptance of the vehicle eventhough dealer offers to repaint (I don't think the manufacturer will ship a new painted panel over..so dealer would probably repaint the panel @a local body shop). What about if say the leather is punctured? Instead of having a leather guy 'patch it', do we have the right to demand the dealer to have the manufacturer ship a new seat over and then exchange?

Regards.

I'd judge the paint scratch or chip based on where it is - if I couldn't see it from more than a couple of feet away and it was in an inconspicuous location I'd be happy with a fix. Same with a clear coat rub mark that could be buffed out.

A leather tear I'd want replaced on a new car - replacing the cover on the section is sufficient - you don't need a new seat. A leather patch wouldn't be acceptable.
