Hello,

Anyone knows the thickness of the OEM pads for the front and rear?

I'm asking this because my dealer told me that my brake are 90% used (on the paper it said that there is only 2mm left) and I'm at 55k km only. I went to a local garage and they told me that in the front, they are 50% used and 70% used in the back.

I'm a little bit (sarcastic) surprise about that huge difference. I will go to another garage to get a third opinion, but I think I will have better answer if I'm looking my self and I will do the measurement.

Any information and help will be useful.

Regards,

go to any pep-boys, auto-zone, or advance auto and ask to see the brake pads for your nissan rogue. tell them thank you, and go home to check yours.

better yet, use my guide on how to clean/replace pads and snap a pic of your brake pads before you put them back in. and i will tell you what you got left.

So I went to another garage and they told me about the same as the second garage, which means that my Nissan dealer is a :hater:

I take some pic and I'm not an expert, but I can see that in front, I'm good for few k km...(maybe 10-15k?) In the back, they seems to be used enough to change in the next 2 months.

Someone can confirm or provide hints?

FRONT: 40%-50% pad life left
REAR: 15%-20% pad life left

since front brakes do 80% of the work id leave it till your fronts are fried out and do it all at once. just keep an eyes out for that constant loud brake squeak. dont drive for more than a day to keep your rotor from being scratched to much.

Someone needs to investigate Nissan. From all the other Nissan forums. I've been hearing a lot about Nissan tell there customers that, there brake pads are almost gone when they have 50% life or more left. This Is definitely a scam.
When they ask me, I'll record audio.

Thanks ImStricken,

You are like the 4th garage :chuckle:

So 3 vs 1 about the life thread.

Question: If I still have 40-50% in front, do you think I can do another 15k km on it? I mean now my Rogue is 56k km. For the rear, I will replace it in a month or so, rotor and break pad. The garages and my dealer told me that the rear rotor cannot be used with another set of pad.

Thanks again.

Here's the details you'll need to evaluate when your brake pads need to be replaced:

New pads: 11mm front and 8.5mm rear.

The minimum wear thickness: 2mm front and 1.5mm rear.

Thanks, you just give me more ammo against my dealer.

The tech put on my sheet that there is 2mm front and rear, which that you can see with the pics that my front is less used (a lot) than my rear.

Thanks

you know its tough to say. i depends on so many variables. season your in, condition of pads, condition of rotors, highway or city, etc.

based upon what i see, you could travel the 15,000miles if your not flying around my New Jersey highways at 80mph like everyone does.
If your area see's Arizona style summers where cars are exposed to 100+ degree ambient shade temps - you have to understand that when you apply the brakes, the metal is already at around 100 degrees-- now add in the typical operating temps to that 100 degree temp = parts might wear a bit quicker. so you might only get 12,000 miles
(in the winter, parts are at near freezing temps, and then reach operating temps- so they wear less due to having lower operating temps. its like if i asked you "if you had to run 5miles, would you do it in the summer heat, or the cool fall weather?" im sure you would want the cooler temps so when your doing your exercise, you stay cooler during peak performance due to cooler ambient temps. i hope that makes sense. )

im almost positive you will get 15,000 out of the front. the rear left(driver side) has one pad that is wearing a little quicker than the other ones. i believe its the outside pad on the rear/left side caliper. all in all, your front are MORE than adequate to drive on. (and since front do 80% of the work, those are the most important when slowing down from 65mph

im going to take your pics into photoshop and show you the pad life so you know in the future what your looking at and how to easily tell.

as you wear your pad, the #6 which is the air pocket begins to get smaller and smaller. as the wearing gets closer to reach the arch of the #6 area it reaches a 1.5/2mm brake pad life left. you can see you still have plenty life there.
but what you need to also understand is pads wear differently all around. some pads will wear quicker being an outside pad, and some might wear quicker being an inside pad. just judge the archway and you will see that in the front you have plenty meat/llife left in the pad.

I have roughly 25%-30% left on my rear brake pads, and I have a long trip planned next month. Should I replace all the brake pads or replace the rears only?

mac , 25- 35% on rear pads I believe "most " would say = 20kmi of normal driving , for most rear pads CAN reach the 100kmi mark , but the range for normal driving , on "non-extreme vehicle" for Rr. pads would be 75kmi - 110kmi .YMMV .And when someone may vehemently say even "can't get 75k!" = SOMETHING OFF there! Don't know what , but something like living top of Wolf Creek Pass Co. :lolling: Also consensus NOW is rotors only need machining IF there is ANY pulsating/vibe's upon pedal appl. , and replacement when down to min thickness of course - Good Luck man .
