What's your setup? Where you live? If you're closer to stock and/or not in a super hot climate, then probably don't worry about it. If you're pushing some power or in a really hot climate, then I would get it. The difference is that the normal setup allows the oil cooler to act in parallel, ie: not all of the oil is forced to be cooled. The sandwich adapter forces the oil to be moved in serial through the oil cooler, meaning all oil must pass through it.

i live in new york so it usualy doesnt get too hot. My set up is jecs 550cc injectors, godspeed smics, dual air intake with dummy maf, z1 chipped ecu, alum one piece ds, slum pully set, lightwright flywheel. Thats about it.. stock turbos. So is running the cooler the way it is atleast better than the stock cooler?

Personally, I wouldn't be concerned with it on that setup, especially being in NY. You could just go with the stock routing configuration and still get the benefit of the better cooler.

It was to my understanding that a normal sandwich adapter performs as you have described, but a thermostatic one has the capability to bypass the oil cooler when the oil temparature is low (e.g. you quickly heat to operating temperature in the cold or on start-up).

Very disappointed to have purchased one (they're pricey), then later got the Moroso oil pan and it no longer fits. First world problems...
