I know this is easy, especially since i just replaced my timing belt and i am putting everything back togther again. I figure i should replace the thermostat while i have it all apart. Here is my problem...i live in a rural area, and my manual and computer are at home, i am at work in town 40 miles from my house. I want to pick up the thermostat on the way home this afternoon so i can install it tonight. Is there any specific sealant I should purchase also? Thanks guys, i know this seems pretty basic, but i am in a logistical Jam.

Just some blue RTV will do the job. Replace that short hose between the tstat housing and the water pump too....I've seen that one blow, and it's a bugger to replace unless you have everything apart.

Luck was with you on that timing belt break that no further valvetrain damage was done.

I am one of the few. i was seriously going zero MPH when it happened. Interesting thing is that the belt didnt break, but like 16 teeth fell off it...the rubber i guess, had gotten so weak that it just fell apart. Now i bought the ride with 100k on it. I but about $3000 into the suspension, tires, exhaust, wheels, etc. I really figured it had been done prior to me buying it. The belt teeth decintergrated at 170,000miles. I like the Jeep, but i miss my Nissan so bad. Thermostat is in, covers on, Crank Pulley on, estimated time of me pulling out of my barn and going 4wheeling....Saturday before noon!

Yeah, I never assume it a belt was replaced by the previous owner. I got a 2003 3.3i Hardbody in December with 110,000 kms. First thing I did was a full service and replaced the cam belt. Now I've got peace of mind.
