So I was about to replace the thermostat on my KA24DE because the motor (just installed) is switching back and forth between running hot with heat and running cool with no heat, making me think the thermostat is sticking one way or the other.

When I took off my thermostat I noticed that it looked different than the one I had to replace it with. The new thermostat I have is a genuine Nissan thermostat, but it has two different part numbers on the box. One is for the KA24DE and the other is for the KA24E. How can I tell which one I actually have? Since it's clearly different than the one that was in the car (an aftermarket one) I'm hesitant to just install it without knowing for sure.

Let me know if there's a way to know for sure. The only things written on the actual thermostat are Nissan 76.5C and 99 2.

I'll post a pic of it in a sec.

your talking about the one that goes to the cluster?

you have to use the correct sensor for the correct cluster sohc sensor for sohc cluster and visa versa

As you can see, the part number for the KAE thermostat is printed on the box and somebody wrote the number for the KADE thermostat.

whenever i want to know if something is interchangable i look up the part number for the item and the part number of my car from the same website and the same specs on the part

i just looked yours up right quick and it says they should be the same for both 90 and 91 which is sohc and dohc so you should be good :bigthumb:

Hello. That is correct thermostat. 21200-53j00 is a really old part number. It's been superseded to 21200-0c811. Nissan uses that thermostat for a lot of cars

Ha so I have a really old new thermostat, but it should be correct.

I'll give it a try.

if you look at the bottom of the box the correct( new) part number is written on it.

Boil some water and put the themostat in. if it opens, it is good. if it doesnt open, there is your problem.
