Is it possible to have the thermostat stuck on the closed position? i was driving home last night and my car overheated. the car stalled and when i went to crank it up again the car was choking but, whenever it did the temp went down a couple notches. any ideas?

yeah its pretty common in older cars with old thermostats. If it keeps overheating then obviously something is wrong. The real only factors are thermostat, water pump, or radiator that can be causing the problem. if your heater quits working when it is overheating i would assume that it is your thermostat and it just needs to be replace. fairly easy job if you are somewhat mechanically inclined if not im sure a shop would do it for like 100 bucks or so. my car did that and i said to hell with thermostats!
