I have searched already..with no luck. I replaced my thermostat on my 95 240 a few days ago. And i can't figure out where the o ring goes. When i was putting it back together, i put the thermostat on first, then the gasket, then the housing. It was such a bugger putting it back together that i didn't look to see it the hole on the thermostat was on top. Does it make a difference if the hole is on top?? Man...someone should do a decent writeup on installs. Often times some info is left out!

it matters. hole is for air bubbles.

is it a flat square seal or a true o-ring? as long as you use plenty of rtv the o-ring may not be that important. i dont actually remember where the o-ring goes.

first off, the hole MUST be on top. if its not, go back outside and take it apart.

if the "o ring" is rather thick, with a groove around the inside, then the rubber goes around the thermostat. you get what im saying? the outer edge of the thermostat fits into the groove in the inside of the rubber ring.

if it is a real o-ring, then you should see a groove that it fits into. either on the outlet, or the housing.

doesnt a rather large pipe go into the back of the t-stat housing for a heater line or something? If so it probably goes on that pipe then slides into the housing. The only Nissan t-stat I know with an oring on it is the b-15 sentra

The o ring is thick. I would image it goes toward the block (away from the housing) So..is it o-ring, thermostat, gasket then housing?

just looked at the factory service manual, no oring! The parts house may have givin you the wrong t-stat or a universal fit t-stat[some applications will use the orings and others wont]
