Hello All,

We just bought a new Versa SL CVT and this morning the thermostat light is on. I checked the coolant which looks fine and the level is good. I was pretty bummed as we just bought it yesterday and I had to drive the old car today.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks in advance for any input.

that light means that the car is still cold at not at operating temps, and is completely normal. Welcome to Nico!

We need to make a sticky, or notify the dealers, this comes up almost every other week... The blue light is normal for the first few minutes of driving, it means the car is still cold.

Thank you, Clipsed. I thought I was going crazy! How could a new car have a temp problem?! Thanks for the welcome - this place is great.

BBISHOPPCM - I had actually called my salesman and he didn't even know. The first thing I did was call them when I got this info from here. I also suggested letting customers KNOW.

CodeRed - Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome. And I did search but nothing came up. A glitch maybe? I hope "CodeRed" isn't an indication that you're due for a heartattack cuz you're so irritated by newbies.

P.S. You should really credit Hitchhikers Guide for "42".

magnetic - I apologize for the abrupt welcome from CodeRed. I've spoken with him about it. The last thing that I want is for a new member not to feel welcomed.

A note about the search, and this isn't always obvious just looking at the search page... there is an option on there to "search thread titles" (which is selected by default) and to "search post bodies". It's best to select the post body search, as it will come up with far more hits an information than the title search.

Welcome to the board! I take it that you have a magnetic gray SL... what options and transmission? and is it a hatch or a sedan?

Meh, sorry for the welcome. I had just got news that the $600 bill for my bent strut on my new car is climbing to over $700 now. Anyways, Welcome to NicoClub, the web's largest Nissan, and Infiniti forum on the internet! As for the thermostat light, Clipsed is right it normally goes on when your car is cool but after a few miles your engine will be fully warmed up.

Hi Ever,

Aha, I get it now - thank you for the search info. Yup, magnetic gray hatch with CVT and we love it. Drives like nothing I've ever driven before! No other options as it has everything we wanted. And we can't believe how much room there is - it makes our Jetta look so small!

We checked out so many other compact cars with price and environment in mind and I was never over the moon but then we found Nissan. All thanks to the scummy salesman at another dealership who lied to us to get us on the lot, just so happens a Nissan dealership was up the road. I did call him to give him a big heartfelt "Thank you".

But now our check engine soon light is on. Am going to do a search now.

Thank you for the welcome!

No worries, CodeRed. I know it can be frustrating seeing the same posts over and over. Add to that some bad news and.....

Good luck with your strut. Question, how did it happen? If you don't mind me asking.

And thank you for the apologie. I appreciate it. And I apologize for my heart attack comment - that wasn't very nice on my end to reply like that. But I still think you should credit Hitchhiker's ; -) heheehe just kidding!

This could be a loose (or faulty) gas cap...

Does no one look over the manual when they buy cars?

No, but that's besides the point.

I figured out what the light meant right after I bought the car, I will admit, it was a bit confusing, as 99.99% of all cars without temp gauges built since the mid 1960's only had an "overheat" indicator. My dad's '65 olds has a low-temp light.

Oh, and ironically, I let a friend drive my car yesterday and he told me I needed to add coolant, as the "low coolant light" was on...

Actually, yes I do. But I just didn't seem to find enough time to browse through the manual between picking it up in the evening and leaving the following morning. Besides...

Who the hell expects to have the temp light on in a NEW CAR? Never mind TWO temp lights?

And it just so happens I looked up the temp light in the manual before posting and DID NOT REALIZE there are 2 temp symbols because they ARE NOT next to each other in the manual that was obviously written by an idiot or a lawyer.

So I ask you, DID YOU READ YOURS within the first 24 hours of ownership?

Damn what is it with people on this site? Sorry, Ever, you have been kind but some people are just too much. Do they troll for this stuff?

And now I have some light reading I need to do.....

Hey mag, we are really a great club, unfortunately some members are a bit more vocal than others. You had a horrible experience, I'm sure we can fix this somehow. We are always welcoming new members to the forum, please don't let a few mistakes give you a bad impression of the forum, we're really good people if you get to know us! So, what do you think of that new Versa?

Who needs a manual when you have Nico? Welcome to the forum magneticSL. Whatever you do...DON'T ask about the Tire Pressure Monitors. lol.

Actually that was one of the first things I did - the first night after getting the car I sat down and read through the entire thing.

I actually downloaded and read the entire manual before I even got the car...

I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing

I figured it out pretty quick, because 1) it was blue which is never a color used for a warning. and 2) I had a motorcycle with a digital temp displayed on the LCD speedo and until it reached 100F, it would display "- - " . I put the two together and figured it was the same type of thing.

It would be nice if cars had a integrated LCD display between the tach and speedometer like many motorcycles. It could display engine temp, oil pressure, mileage, average speed, tripometers, fuel level and basically any other data available in the ECU.
