i have a 91 , the componet should be on the same location.

the theromstate should be in the metal housing where the 3 bolt are connected to the block( where u'r bottom radiator house connect to) tug it or pull it off and scrap off the gasket cleanly and use sandpaper if u have it. remember to bleed u'r cooling system after u refill everything. Your bleeder screw should be top front of the engine where u'r 'top' radiator hose is at.

My radiator fluid(can't call it anitfreeze) is disgustingly brown, and today for some odd reason the temp needle went up about a 1/4 and then it went back down, i wanna flush the radiator, how is it that this bleeding thing works, or how can i clean my cooling system. I'll really appreciate i if someone could tell me how to or direct me to a link where they explain it. Thank you

u just want to flush it out right? its very easy. first go out to pepboys or autozone and buy a quality container of antifreeze, and get some radiator flush stuff, i used prestone flush liquid in mine.

take off the rad cap. locate the plastic drain bolt at the bottom of the radiator. put a bucket or big oil pan under it to catch all that nasty antifreeze and when its done draining empty it into a sealed container (dont just dump pure antifreeze anywhere). either leave the container in your backyard for years like me or take it to an appropriate collecting station when u get the time. also dump the fluid reservoir out into the container.

locate the bleeder hole on the intake manifold. there should be a little sticker on it that says do not open when hot. unscrew the bolt, add the radiator flush stuff in through the rad, and start filling the system up through the rad cap opening. you can fill fast for a min, but remember once it gets near the top that water will fly out the bleeder hole. so go slow once you can see the water rising in the rad.

after water starts coming out the bleeder hole your good to go. put the nut back in and tighten it lightly. I broke that bolt off easily and it sucked...

start the car up and you should see some bubbles coming up, let it do this for 10-20 seconds, then stop and add water to the top of the rad hole. replace the rad cap and go drive the car for a while. then come back and let the car cool. then drain and refill with water and antifreeze the same way you did before. 50/50 for cold climates, 70/30 for warmer climates.

I have a problem, my car's overheating weirdly. The car drives fine for about 15 mins, after that the temp needle stays at normal range but, the engine starts making noises, like pistons or valves knocking, sort of liek when you put 87 or lower octane gas and hwen you accelerate it knocks.. Whats happening is that the water is evaportaing, it's not leaking or anything, i've checked tons of times for leaks, now the Thermostat is good, i flushed the radiator and my overfill tank never fills up. But i add water to the radiator one day and the next i have to add more, it evaporates it. It gets so hot that when i pulled the dipstick out to check, smoke was coming out, and it doesn't mark any oil. The car does have oil, is full. I've already tried getting all the bubbles out. Any help will be greatly appreicated i dont' know what else to check. How can i check the water pump? Thank you very much

hmm i had a problem with my old 89 240sx... it took quite a bit of money and a little time to correct this problem. first things first...pop your hood, start your car. now watch your clutch fan when your gf cuts the car off... does it stop when the engine stops? if not theres the beggining of the rabbit hole. replace the clutch on the fan, but while your at it and that close to the water pump you might as well replace it too. this is very very simple, its just a matter of getting to it. water pump and gasket will run you no more than $40. Next check the resivior is it cracked, melted or leaking? if so replace... now those are $100 from dealer and dont expect those nazi parts guys at nissan to give you a new hose and cap those are extra. still leaking fluid? check your drain **** to see if it has been stripped or if its fully in there. if your completely out of ideas try the heater core.... is your passenger floor board moist? if it is then its your heater core.... another idea i did is fill up your cooling system with 100% antifreeze (green) and let it run through the system untill it reaches idle temp... then place white construction paper all under your engine on the ground.. tape in place as needed. come back in the morning and locate area of leak. also check your radiator cap for leakage. also i know for my 89 the thermostat came with a "jiggle valve" make sure you get the exact same thermostat when you get one. hope this helps
