Well, at idle the water pump isn't turning very fast. Giving it some gas increases the water pump RPM and moves more water through the radiator and allows more water to be cooled. I used to high idle my Shelby a bit before shutting it off to let it cool a bit more.

The stock temp gauge on the s13 is pretty useless. If you want something accurate, get something aftermarket.

i thought my car was running fine, on a Mishimoto Radiator with no fan, then i installed a Autometer coolant temp gauge, in prep for a drift event, and my temps were WAY to high just running round town and the stock gauge read fine, last minute installs SUCK( F-A-L dual 12 inch fans)

yea i blew my motor somehow. when it gets back ill look at it and take it apart.

but i think it blew from over heating! so yea.

but hopefully my dad will buy me a shell and i could re-build my old motor and put it in it.

well i just finished fixing my blown head gasket yesterday and everything was good, took it for a test drive and it didnt overheat... so today i gave it a real test drive in the canyons and everything was good on the way up... but on the way down it was overheating like a BBQ... so i pulled over and turned the engine off, waited like 1min or 2, started it up and the temp said hott! but then a second later it automatically goes down to half way... and this happened like 5 times

So now im gunna replace my nissan thermostat w/ another one, flush my coolant system(which is new since my radiator cracked when my head gasket blew), and put in a brand new water pump from FRsport.com...

and hopefully its all good after that... if not, next is the heater core...

I highly recommend doing the head gasket yourself, its a good experience and you save thousands, just take your time and mark EVERYTHING!!! i got some missing and extra nuts&bolts
