Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to replace the thermostat in my maxima. I am not sure where it is, and how easy it is to access it to remove/replace. Do I need to drain the coolant???

Thanks! any help will be well received.

Look at the radiator on the passenger side at the bottom. you will see a big black hose going from it to what appears the engine block. Right there where the hose connects is the thermastat. You will need a new gasket. Get an OEM one from nissan1.) Drain the coolant. You have to do this. Bolt is on the bottom of the radiator. REPLACE BOLT ONCE DRAINED. I saved the coolant and used it again.2.) Disconnect the big black hose going to the thermastat.3.) There are 3 (if memory serves me right) bolts that hold the thermastat in place. Once this is off remove thermostat and put new gasket on the new thermastat and put new thermostat in.4.) once everything is back into place you need to bleed the coolant system. Fill as much as you can throught the radiator cap on top of the radiator The way i did it was jack the car up at an angle from the front. Then start the car and the bubble will come out and you will have to fill it up more. Be sure to have towels wrapped around the rad cap because the fluid will get hot and boild out or it can bubble out. Then place the cap back on. You're done.
