Ever since I did the swap my thermostat isn't reading. I had to reconfigure my pin-outs on the wiring harness to match my J4 ECU, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Before I put in a mines tuned 62 ECU but the car was running too rich and none of the gauges were working except the fuel. After putting in the J4, the tachometer reads now. The car is stuck in safe-mode.

"-Water temperature sensors for both ECU and dash cluster are identical to KA24DE. Make sure to get the same sensor as your year chassis."

-From the FAQ

Since I have a J4 ECU and my car is a 91 is it possible that the sensors don't match, and how do I know which one to get?

the ecu has nothing to do with the temperature sensor. The white plug on the wiring harness (under the passenger side dash) links the cluster to the temperature sensor. I would check to see if that was wired up right.

Since your car is a 91, you need a sensor for a 91 ka24de. I don't think is too year specific, i think the FAQ just mean S13 or S14.

Please oh please don't depend on that stock temp gauge, those things are horrible! I just had an incident and saw first hand how bad they are.

The stock gauge isn't exactly accurate, but it's better than nothing.

Since your motor is an S13 motor and your chassis is an S13 chassis, the stock sensor is the correct type. However, it's possible that it's dead. A new one from Nissan costs under $20 IIRC. The sensor reports directly to the gauge cluster, so your ECU has nothing to do with it.

Given that you're having other gauge problems, though, you may want to look for corrosion or missing screws on the cluster. The screws that hold the gauges to the cluster also act as grounds. If your cluster looks to be in good order, then you may just have some bad sensors in the fuel tank sender and dash temp sensor.
