I purchased a used 2002 QX4 with 81700kms in December 2006 for my wife. The first problem I noticed was that when the vehicle was idle the heater did not work as well as when as when I was driving. I didn't do anything about it but after reading other forums I guess I should. A couple of months later my wife took the car to the states and was shopping and I received a frantic call that the car alarm went off as she opened the door to get out. It kept going on and no matter what she did it would not turn off. She just kept pressing her alarm button on her keys chain and it stopped but then it did it again, then the check engine light came on. About 2 weeks later she went to start the car and it wouldn't start. It turned over but just did not want to start. after about 15 min. it started. That happened a couple more times and then we brought it to the Nissan dealership. the said that the engine overheated 33 key cycles ago and to keep an eye on it. After 2 weeks it did it again and she brought it in again , three hours later they said that it was the o0 sensor and they changed that for $404.00. I week later the car didn't start again. this time my wife was fuming mad. They said that it must be something else which probably meant that we didn't need to change the o2 sensor in the first place. After 5 days in the shop becausethe car always started for them it finally it start and they replaced my fuel pump relays for another $200.00. And now the car overheats. the temperture gauge goes up and then if I continue to drive it goes down going highway speeds. Just starting the car and going down the street it over heats. Where is the location of thermastat and do you have any suggestions. We have no manuals and I would like to do the work myself. Sorry for going on but you said to be specfic!

I would go to http://www.phatg20.net to download your FSM (Factory Service Manual). Then google for some software to decompress the .rar file that you download.

I think you have several non-related issues going on... something electrical (alarm issues) and something in your cooling system. You will need to get the cooling isuse fixed ASAP. These engines won't take many overheats before they're toast. Even one good overheat can do substantial damage.

What is the service history on the vehicle? In the U.S. every Infiniti dealer has access to the records by VIN, so you might check with one to get a copy. I wonder if your car has some prior repaired damage from an accident... not that an undamaged car can't have gremlins like this, but it's far more likely in one that has been rebuilt.

Welcome to NICO!
