i searched the forum for a bit and didn't find anything so i thought i would ask.

the top two vavuum lines attached to what i am fairly certain is a thermal vacuum valve are broken off. does this matter much?
should i replace the TVV? or can i just forget about it for now.

this is an '84 720 Z24 its a 4x4 with ext cab

here is a pic. it doesn't clearly show it, but the top two lines are completly broken off, they just happen to be resting where they should be in this photo.

thanks!!!

We figured out the round white plastic thing under it in the pic with two vacuum lines retards the timing after a preset something something.

from what I know (cause I broke mine trying to replace vac lines) it opens the egr valve, when the coolant temp gets hot enough this tvv sends vacuum to the egr, newer cars have a solenoid that does this. I capped off the lines to the tvv after I broke the connectors, and was planning to get a new tvv, but it has run just fine for over a year.

yeah it controls the egr, its not necessary for running good just more emissions crap. mines plugged. as with every other port except the vac line to the dizzy.

It also retards the ignition during choke by defeating the vac advance while the engine's cold.

According to my 82 FSM it controls distributor vacuum advance. If the valve is open it will stop distributor vacuum from advancing.

I guess the valve controls timing until the engine is warm. This is coming out of a 82 FSM.

^ yep

Once its warm it runs as if it were plugged, it only does something while the truck is cold. Not really a key part.
