Hey team,
Two questions in one really.
I'm thinking about doing the whole thermal barrier coating for a CA18DEZ I'd like to build. It'll be cobbled together using parts of a few motors. I have a four port head too. As I see it' tere can be no real drawback in having the pistons, combustion chambers, valves, and exhaust ports coated with a thermal barrier coating.
From what Iunderstand it has the ability to keep much of the heat from conducting into the rest of the engine.
This being the case, is not the whole premise of oil squriters to ry and soak some of the heat from the pistons? The drawback of this being greatly increased oil windage, and lost power. So with the TBC, surely the squirters wont be anything like as critical as in a standard (uncoated) motor. I've heard that with forgies the squirters are also no longer required also.
Given my pool of parts, i'm leaning toward a DE block purely for the sake of it being cheaper than giving the DET block at my disposal a line bore which it needs.
What do you fullas reckon?
