So, I have always had a little issue with coolant loss. I would fill every few days, with no real worries. Well, lately (the last few weeks) it has been getting steadily worse. I first noticed the coolant river from the head when I was installing my oil cooler. I put the car up on stands and ran it with some Seafoam in the crank case, when after about 10 minutes, there were small puddles of green under the car. Ok. Well, I poked around and found that a leak had sprung from right between my head and block, at the back of the block. No white smoke. No oil loss. No oil in coolant. So, it seems that my headgasket blew out the back and that the water jackets are leaking out the back of the motor.

I just ordered a .85mm Cometic that will be here Friday. Now, should I be worried that such an odd leak occured? Is there any chance that my head is warped? I am really upset, but this will give me the chance to do a little housekeeping in the engine compartment.

Expect a full write up with pics when I am done. Head comes off Friday, hope to have it all back and on the road Sunday by 5 (I have to be at work between 5-6pm)

Just out of curiosity, why did you get a 0.85mm headgasket when stock is 1.2mm? That will severely throw off the quench area in your combustion chamber and make your car run like ***. Not to mention with that much of a reduction, you may have some valve on piston action... Is there something I don't know about your motor?

Well, damn it. That is the one that Cometic said was the standard one. I asked about size, and she said that the part # from the sticky was a .85mm.

.85mm would definitely not be healthy for your motor. I'd call them back asap and try to change it before they ship it out.

I AM A MORON.

The WONDERFUL lady that answered the phone (her name was Shelley) told me that the bore for that gasket # is 85mm and the thickness is right around 1.25mm .

SO...I was fine from the get go. Operation Head Gasket is back on!!!!!

The quench area theoretically should go down to 0mm, BUT to allow for con-rod stretch at high rpm a little engineering leeway is allowed for, so most likely a 0.85 gasket would have been alright anyway.

cool, as long as you are sure its the headgasket. I thought mine was and it turned out to be a bad rubber hose for the oil cooler and a loose heater hose clamp.

Oh no....You can run your hand across the seam between the head and the block and feel the coolant. And it is nowhere else but there. I already had a leak about a year ago from the turbo coolant return, and fixed that.

Well, looking at the new gasket, there are more water jackets around the rear cylinder than all the others. I guess the idea is that the rear cylinder gets the hottest. Seems time just caught up with the original gasket and took it out.

BTW, the Cometic one looks bomb proof. Cost me $100, but $53 to get it overnighted

Well, I took out the stocker Tuesday, and this is my daily. I actually asked for 2 day air, which was ~$40, but they upgraded me to 2nd Day Air, w/o my consent. Oh well....at least I got it!

Gotcha. Get me pics if you can. I have a sneaking suspicion that my stocker is leaking as well. Combutions chambers are sealing, but I've got a pretty good oil leak on the exhaust side of the head near the back. I can't track it down. It stinks and is pissing me off.

Will do (I am about to start...shooting to have at least the head off and cleaned today). Check your valve cover gasketsRyan. Mine leak from time to time.

On a side note: My GT-R seat came the same day as my hg. Too bad I have to wait to enjoy it

Also note: Until I get my writeup done, here is what I am using as a How To:http://www.davidrawlinson.org....tml?0
