So I took my car to the drag strip friday ran fine. Then last night i goto start it and it sounds like i just dry started it or somthing.... extreamly loud tapping. I turn the car off right away check the oil and its fine not low not even dirty. So i drive home and it taps when ever i go over 10% throttle ( LOUD tapping ) . So i am freaked out not having any clue what it could be since im fine on oil. Anyone have any idea? Its a stock s13 red top with bolt-ons.

with out actually hearing the noise its hard to determine whats wrong. so my sugestion to you is put a heavier weight oil in(10-30) assuming you are using 5-30. try that and see what happens. it always quieted down my lifters when they got crazy loud. i would also recomend a compression test.

Quite possibly your timing chain has stretched out and is making the noise against your chain guides..may also want to bleed the lifters.

bleeding the lifters is very simple and you should do it just to be shore plus it will help anyway. also, put your valve cover and where the gears are on the enof the cams, theres a space between them where the chain runs over to the other gear, over the is a plate of metal, just take a size 12mm i think it is ratchet or w/e and unbolt that plate. its ok to leave it off and look at the bottom to see if its got stratches and what not, either way i would leave it off.
