Sounds like you needs a parts car and a tune up. Fix the alt first then followed by other important stuff. Take a list and number them accordingly on what needs to be fixed and maybe get some quotes from junkyards, auto parts stores.

imo, suspension/brakes needs to be taken care of first (after routine maintenence)you can unload thousands in that easily.after that, start working on the drivetrain from the rear forward. meaning, make sure you have an LSD, then get a lightweight driveshaft if you want... upgrade the clutch, and after all that your car will be more than ready to handle serious horsepower. not to mention you'll understand your car better, and hopefully be able to drive it better so you don't total it a day or so after getting a turbo. this forum doesnt need anymore totaled 240's

oh, and when it comes to performance parts, don't be cheap. reputable shops don't cary ebay parts for a reason! save for the parts you want, it will be worth it.

Are you still driving the car? If so, getting it legal is first priority (fixing the emission problem).

Then take care of the mechanical issues (alt, ps pump, etc). New carpet and dash are good, but it wont give you any performance. If you want the car to be 'pretty', go ahead and replace both.

I like the idea of keeping a list of parts you need. Maybe make a second list of things you want (trunk latch), but dont really need. It sucks going to the junkyard, and later realizing you shoulda spent an extra $15 to replace some trim or something.

Most importantly, enjoy the car!

I'm still in the midst of restoring mine back to factory running condition. Starting on the Timing Chain Rattle this weekend, I reccomend you look into the How To posted on this.

figure out whats the problem with the car first to pass your smoggy.

carpet can wait

hes not asking about performance parts... why does he need an aftermarket light weight driveshaft when his car can't even pass smog?align the tires. go head to a junkyard for an alternator and dig around for the power steering pressure hose.

lsd/driveshaft doesnt make the car handle more hp... performance shops do carry ebay parts too. cheap brembo rotors, pilot strut bars, etc...

If its not legal to drive then you shouldn't be worry about how to drift your car in another thread you made.

Fix the emissions problems, then your mechanical problems. Like a few others said, making sure your car is running decent is the Main priority other than carpet and dash, etc. parts.

If you have a long list of problems with the car and need parts, you may (that is if you have the money) find a cheap parts car. Once you have the car in running, when its passed the emissions, then if you still want to look in to perfomance parts, but there's no sense in spending an *** of money on useless parts. My question is whats wrong with the dash in the car to change it? If the carpet is not in good shape replace it. If your suspension is great then maybe a few modifications. I don't see any sense in changing out the whole suspension unless your running a Rally race. Most of all focus on the main problems with the car before playing.
