Well, I thought it was about time that I started my build thread and got things going.

This is pretty much the official continuation of my previous thread zer...50134. For those who didn't see or read any of it I'll pretty much recap what I had posted.

Labor day weekend I drove home for the weekend to spend with family and friends in Tulsa, Ok. I was glad to be home to see everyone who cared to see me, some of you know what I mean. Some of you don't know that Tulsa actually has a well populated strip and we have some much of a selection of car enthusiast it's mind blowing sometimes. When I was hanging out with my other Delta car club chapter, I noticed a clean looking 240sx. I had talked to him for a lil bit and about the sr20 he had put in it. This beast was clean looking.

When I returned to my current residence of Abilene, Tx (Im active duty USAF) I decided I wanted to build a car. I was trying to think what I wanted and what I could do. I later decided to build me a skyline 240sx. So, when I got a chance to surf the internet I hit up Craigslist to see if I could find me a shell. After about 15 minutes of searching, I came across one that was $400 and was pretty local. I clicked on it to see the pictures to come and find out that the area in the back looked oddly familiar and the pictures were take on base where I resided. I contacted the owner with an offer of $250 and he said it was that he would take it. When payday came around and after working out my finances I had only $175 to spare. I asked him if I could give him that much to hold the shell for me and I was surprised to hear from him that he'll take the $175 and give me the shell. I was sooo happy.

Well I have the title and need to get it switched over to me as soon as I can get the time to get it changed. Now the car is sitting at the auto hobby shop and I have been trying to get the shell off base to my other residence asap but I cant seem to find someone with the time and trailer to get it off. Once I do I'm going to start my big build from the ground up.

I plan to gut the interior and engine compartment. My plans for the car is going to take some time and money too.

I'm planing to drop a RB25DET into it. Now currently it has an AT, but I plan to do a MT swap. The place selling the engine I looked at happens to have the trans with part of the package.

I was trying to think about where I should start with the car and since the wiring harness was cut on the shell I thought best that it's better to have brains before the heart.I was trying to see if I could just put in a rb25 wiring harness in instead of splicing one in on top of the 240's. I was also wanting to put in a GTS's ecu to work with the system.

Now another reason for the build thread is because Im not a master mechanic and thats also why I wanted to build the car so I can know what makes it tick well run, ticking is bad lol. So this means not only am I going to post things about the build but also be asking questions. I was told this is the best way and withing forum regs

I've found an engine, http://jspecauto.com/catalog_p...id=51, and it has all what I need I think. Now there are plenty of things on the 240 right now that need to be replaced and changed, and probably added. But since this heart comes with it's own brain would it work?

I've already found the mounts i need that will allow me to mount the engine and make it fit. Thank you Syko Performance http://sykoperformance.com/prod01.htm, they also have a fmic pipping system available. They have also talked to the people at The DriveShaft shop about either an aluminum or a steel drive shaft for the conversion.

I would also like all of you RB25 drivers and fans to give your opinions on parts and sites to check out. I've yet to find a body kit and stuff like that but it's not on my priority list right now. Right now I would just like the car to be up running stock. After then will I start making it for show.

I will include the some pictures that I took when I went to take a look at the car where it's parked. For those who have read my other thread, these are just a repeat of pics. sorry.

When I get some time I will post a section of what I want and need. Like I said, if any of you have any opinions on parts let me know. Im open to ideas. And fyi, no one is talking me out of the rb25. And unless someone wants to help me pay for a RB26DETT then sure lol.

That's all I have for now. Thanks all!

V/r

PARTS NEEDED//WTB SECTION & HAVE//INSTALLED SECTION

This section is dedicated to the parts I am currentsly looking for or wanting to buy for my project plus included what has been purchased and installed. Since there are no color options for the text, I will have to write out what's going on. Too bad my HTML skills are not valid on these forums.

If I can get pictures of the parts needed I will include them so you will all have an idea too or if you happen to know where I can get it/them. Plus an online bibliography so if you like what I find then the vendor gets thier props.

thanks all!

Congrats. Welcome to 'The Family'.

Before beginning anything, I would start repairing any rust or frame damage. What trim level is your hatch?

As far as parts, look at our Advertisers Index.

Ricky (Coolwhip here on Nico) has a business (RawBrokerage.com) that specializes in RB parts, as well as being a swell guy! (also an advertiser)

Sean @ Z1 is also an advertiser who does a fair amount of RB parts.

Read the stickies, read read read read! and research before doing anything! Also, learn to use the Search box. (It can be a pain, but it does work, also using the Google-Nico search may yield different results.)

Before you ask, I did a 25DET-> 93 Coupe conversion.

Also, I hope that you are *financially stable* because this sort of swap is not for the faint of hear, nor faint of wallet.

Also, what about the rear strut towers? I know this is a Tejas car, but again, take care of any chassis maintenance BEFORE starting the engine swap.

right, and I plan to do both, search and read what I can find on the topic/issue.

im going to be selling a H22 soon so the money i get for that will help me get the engine/trans/ecu/wiring harness but like you said i need to check and make sure the shell is structurally sound.

This will be my baby so saving for the project will not be am issue, and hopefully i can move off base, then i'll be able to work on both my cars lol.

thx

Okay guys we finally got the 240 off base and at my ghosting location. Now the reason there's a car cover is only b/c to keep it out of the prying eyes of rival car groups and people looking for salvage.

The first thing we did was just started taking parts off so we can get it gutted. Like I said, I'm building this car from the ground up so a lot of things are coming out that some would keep but I doing custom things to it later.

Included in this post are photo's from us picking up the car and towing it off base. Later that night I was so excited to have it I started working on it. In the couple hours before I had to get back to base and sleep we took out the radiator and fenders and front bumper and a whole lot of things from the engine bay. It's pretty much gutted except the wiring and the engine.

Today after work I started again and we pretty much tore through interior like a tornado. think of how yall's interior looks and then see what we did.

I have a few friends helping me get this thing ready to clean and paint.I'll be the guy in the gray wife beater and standing in the engine bay.

We checked at a salvage yard about some doors b/c I want powered windows in the GL project and the ones in the car now are manual. Question: is there any other additional type of wiring I will need to do other than power for the windows for the new doors? I found some ViS carbon fiber doors for $2400, lol I'd love to have those heh The doors from the salvage is are $150 each and come from a gold 240.

What I need to do is create a NEED/WTB/LOOKING post up above and also incorporate what has been purchase and what has been installed and stuff like that. When I get the time that is.

I dont know what I'll be doing this weekend to it, probably trying to fine a cherry picker to get the engine and detach the transmission. Also may the driveshaft of too.

Question: the engine I have in mind says it comes with the wiring harness so does it match up with the current one or its a whole new one? I think I need to contact the company about that, lol

There's a lot more to come, after everything has been gutted, I plan to start sanding the body so I can get that out of the way.

Question: I heard that there is a warehouse here in Tejas that sells the RB's "locally" so I could just come and pick it up instead of paying $350 for shipping from Canada.

Well that's it for tonights post, if we do anything more this weekend, I'll take more pics and post as soon as I can get to the interweb.

night all.

You did bag and label all of your bolt sets, right?

Looks like a good start. Also, I wouldn't be too hasty to start pitching stuff.

So THAT's what the factory tape deck looks like!

While you have everything out, rebuild your rack, or get a rebuild. power-wash and strip your bay before priming and painting it.

Having buddies to help is a great asset that I wish I had.

What are all of the stickers on the windscreen from / of?
