OK, a little more progress when I can squeeze it in:

Swapped in some rebuilt axles (they're pretty simple to rebuild, and kinda fun to assemble)...

Running a beefier mustache bar with some nice poly bushings to replace the rubber ones:

Next up, I'll bolt in the rear subframe assemblies and start on the front!

so looks like you're gonna swap in an R200, guessing this means CLSD? what springs and struts are you using? guessing the typical 280, manima rear disk swap, and fronts are toyota 4 pistons on stock rotors? I gotta say if you plan on using the brakes much the vented upgrade will minimize the brake fade

Springs are (I believe) Koni, and the struts are custom-built. Note the shortened overall height and relocated lower control arm mounting point...

Good eye on the disc swap - Maxima rears, Toyota fronts, and I'll be losing these rotors in favor of some nice Stop-Tech units.

I don't think koni makes springs? do you mean you think the struts are revavled stockers? the housings appear to be completely stock, and yeah I see the bump steer spacer I've never run them but they are quite popular

Yeah, the Velarossa thing is just too gay for me.

Here's my "inspiration", and aside from the flares, huge forged wheels and stripes, this is what she'll look like when finished:

I'll also be rocking chrome fender mirrors and some tinted old-school OEM headlight covers.

Good call on the fender mirrors

Just out of curiousity...why chrome as opposed to black?

First ones I found.

Actually, I want to retain as much chrome as I can. Jason is welding up the bumpers to remove the carriage bolts, overriders and bumperettes, so they'll be smooth and "blade-like"... Much like the JDM model.

I just spotted a restored 280Z while driving down the road today... I'd have one if I could afford it. Too bad he was wanting $6900 for it. One of these days, I'll have one.

Good hell, that is one of the most beautiful, elegant, and powerful looking cars I've ever seen. I'm sure you get compliments all the time, but if there's one car that deserves to be eye-humped, it is without a doubt your car. If it were mine, I'd LoJack that thing if you havent already. Absolutely gorgeous, man.

looks like "bubble flares" I believe Blackdragone sells them, but kind looks like he widened them a bit more to cover the CCW's, with coil overs and a 275 wide tire I think the standard bubble flare will cover

the hks 6 speed is a way to spend a lot of money and not gain any performance, and I'm not a big fan f the VG30DE's the single cam is so much easier to work on, and has about as much potential

I've got an LS1, but you can't have it

It's in my camaro.

I'd like to come by and check out your project sometime. I'm sure it'll make me miss my old 240. I already miss the two 83 turbo cars I had, but the Camaro is much quicker.

i have an 86 vg30et complete swap for my s13...

if the single cam engine can hold 550whp and 7500rpm, with cams turbo pistons and quality rebuild only, for 10k miles ill be happy and go with the single

i know the dual cams are stronger, newer, more tunable, and have vvt on some

hks trans is for strength and to change up the gear ratios i want 60mph in first, 90 in second 120 in third 160in forth 190 in fifth 220mph top speed

newer z06 transaxle setup is appealing but it would require extensive modification

Not trying to go against your plans or anything... but it would take an incredible amount of body work to get an S30 to aerodynamically even get close to those speeds... but, if you're planning on doing that more power to you. I would love to see what kind of designs you come up with for that as aero mods for the Z (as far as actually heavily improving on them) are somewhat new.

Tranny wise, a Z32 5-speed would get you near those numbers with a Q45 differential (3.538) and if you want more than that will offer you can go a step up to the Armada differential, which is an R230 like the Z32 TT but with even larger axles and output flanges. That is available in 3.36 and 2.94.

Say you have your 275-30-19 tires and a 7,500 rpm redline your gear limited top speed would be:3.538 diff: 214 mph3.36 diff: 225 mph2.94 diff: 257 mph

Speed in each gear:3.538 diff:1st - 50 mph2nd - 84 mph3rd - 123 mph4th - 161 mph5th - 214 mph

3.36 diff:1st - 53 mph2nd - 88 mph3rd - 130 mph4th - 169 mph5th - 225 mph

2.94 diff:1st - 60 mph2nd - 101 mph3rd - 149 mph4th - 193 mph5th - 257 mph

For what you're wanting though I'd probably recommend the Cobra T56. It has a .63 6th gear whereas the Viper/'Vette/Camaro 6th is .50.

With a 7,500 rpm redline, the Cobra T56, your tire choice (275-30-19), and the Q diff (3.538) your gearing would be like so:1st - 60 mph2nd - 90 mph3rd - 124 mph4th - 161 mph5th - 201 mph6th - 255 mph

That gets you exactly to your goals for much, much less than the HKS unit would cost. Just some ideas.

Also, since you mentioned the Corvette transaxle I just wanted to throw in how cool that thing is. Its really a standard T56 like you'll find on the Cobra, Viper, Camaro, etc. however the tail section was just replaced with a differential. The differential bolts right to the rear of the transmission turning it into a transaxle. Its pretty awesome... I want to use one sometime in a custom built car, mid-engined car.

Holy Information.thank you

i like that 3.36 diff

did a search of the drag coefficient

showing .465 Cd for the S30 .38 Cd for a Bonneville s30

Tony D wrote:

"The Z has a .465 Cd, a 62 VW Microbus has a .44 Cd, and a 4'x8' sheet of plywood has a .48 Cd. Those numbers are FACTS. There are FEW vehicles on the road as unaerodynamic as an S30 Z-Car. Most American Muscle Iron has better drag characteristics! Hence their top speeds being far higher with little additions of horsepower. The lower the drag number, the faster you can go with less HP. There is a configuration of the S30 that yields a .38Cd, and this is theconfiguration where we run at Bonneville. This is how we go 173 with about the same power as John Coffee in his stock (or nearly stock) bodied S30 without allowable aids."

beauty comes at a cost i guessi was thinking like .34 at mostshes worse then a brick

i think it needs a front air splitter and a wangan style diffuser wing

Forgot to add, if you are interested in the VG30ET you can use the Z32 5-speed by using a 89-91 Maxima flywheel with either a Maxima or 84-86 300ZX Turbo on non clutch. Use the Z32 starter and throwout bearing and it works beautifully. I'm currently using that setup in my M30 and have had a great time with it. You can easily get a Fidanza flywheel as well as they made them for those year Maxima's (using one on the M).
