Just wanted to see what others have experienced. My car is a 1990 Q45 with 177K. Worst problem ever experienced was alternator failure (I still managed to drive it home). Original Drivetrain through and through with no sign of trouble. Guides were done at T3.

Oh, lest I forget, this was pretty bad too...but it was my own fault. Scroll down for my post.

On my 1995Q, a transmission failure. Worst is defined as expensive, in my case.

Damn Hitman, I don't think I can wait till weekend to hear this story. I this something you've been holding inside? You may need some Q therapy...lol... when you get it back, take it on the hiway and mash that gas to the floor for 3 minutes....that will get you grinning again.

If it took that long, I think it is the transmission.

It was the long, cold, dark days before NICO or Yahoo. When it was warm out the Q wouldn't start if it was still warm and you'd let it sit - if you opened the trunk for about 10 mins it would start just fine. Had to be towed 3 times. This went on for a couple of months = misery. Discovered the FPC!- found the melted plastic connector -fixed the melted solder joint. One of the happiest days of my life. -Squee

Mine was in April of 1998 - guide failure of Q1. I knew about the problem with the guides, but I was waiting for a couple of more weeks for a closing on some investment property before I made the trek to Atlanta. I was lucky to only have one slightly bent valve on one cylinder. $2800 later and I got her back and she's been running strong ever since!

02/00 The active suspension went on my car. A tube at the rear driver's side wheel ruptured.

The car sat lower than a low rider. I could not fit my fingers between the tire and the fenders. It happended two weeks after I bought the car.

I got it 'fixed' and much later had it converted to a standard suspension.

i've had both front window regulators go out, and now a back one may be bad. luckily it's in the up position, so i just won't use it. i've also had the car stall a couple times, but i know why. pop charger + 100 degree temps isn't good for the Q.

This is the saga of a 1993 J30T with 156, 000 miles. Here we go...Mar 2003, traveling at 35 mph,the dash lights come on and the engine stops running and will not restart...this happens 240 miles from the closest dealership. An electrical shop finds a fault in the ignition for the left (drivers) side of the engine. It is repaired but we then "hear" further bad news...it has skipped time, broken the tensioner and bent 8 valves. After repairs (tensioner, timing belt, ignition module, valve job, new left head and a variable timing solenoid) the car worked for about 2-3 weeks at a time but kept skipping time on the drivers side cam or it lost power when trying to accelerate. The engine has skipped time 3 more times and now has minimal engine performance when accelerating. The shop doing the repairs is stumped and refunds ALL our money and has it towed to a Houston dealership. The dealership offers $850 to check the timing and a minimum of $4000-$5000 just to pull the drivers side head and look inside...no other repai included!!! I just had it towed back to my driveway about 35 minutes ago...Anybody want a car!!!

Gotta keep those timing belts fresh and do the tensioners and VVT sprockets............should be able to get a swapped engine for $4500.

What would I be looking at in terms of cost if I replace the engine? CNS California has a long block for $950 plus shipping. What should I look out for? Is this legitimate? That price includes heads, oil pan, and warranty. Thanks for your help and information.

Camp,

Q45tech is the expert. In all your travels around the internet, you will never ever come close to the truth that was given you by Dennis. You recieved the word. There is no altering this truth. If you question the veracity of my accolades, I suggest you run a simple search of the posts contributed by Q45tech.

The$4500 Dennis aluded to, means everything, labor included. Putting a non stock (OEM) engine means a different transmission and custon fabricating, etc., etc, etc. You are looking at $4500 to make your J have an engine that runs like it's supposed to run. Take it to the bank.

As to rationalizing the expence, where else could you spend $4500 and get a vehicle as fine and refined as the J30t? No doubt you require other maintenance and a search of all things Dennis and J30 will answer many questions grasshopper.

Just a leaky front brake line but little/no brakes can be a shocker luckily only going 35 mph in city and the rears worked good enough [if you used both feet and braced].................oh the horror of the Q on a flat bed for the first time at around 230,000 miles after 12 years of ownership.

Had to call my son to pick my date and myself up in his clunker at a fancy party........an 88 Corsica with a sagging headliner and no AC.

Never had a flat tire that required using a spare [preemptive tire replacement]...............now I recommed preemptive brake hose replacement .................seems common on Q as they get to 200k or 10-12 years.

The dealer forgot to connect the reverse (I think) pin after working on my transmission once. I drove to my house and parked on the driveway nose first. In the morning the car couldn't go into reverse. Called the dealer, they sent a tow truck and fixed the problem.......they felt so bad they gave me back some of money from the original work.

125K on a 94Q and the only failure has been injectors. Even then the car still drove. This girl has never left me stranded and the only time she saw a tow truck was two months ago when she was stuck in the snow. Q45Tech is right, preemptive parts replacement is far cheaper than tow bills, rental cars, and dealer hassles.

Water pump, fan, clutch, hoses and battery due at next oil change and the under plenum marathon this summer.

Nothing big, but we've only had the Q since christmas.

About a week after we got it, I was elbows deep into my ebay car, checking out everything I could find. One of the things I checked was the air filter. (I bet you know where this is going) Wouldn't idle, so I figured you guys weren't kidding about the MAF.

I wiggled it, car jumped back to life, ran fine for a day or two. I wiggled it a coupl times before pulling it apart and using my Mopar electronic parts cleaner and my Ford silicone dielectric / brake lube to fix it for good.

Idles glass smooth ever since. Thanks NICO!

My only breakdown was MAF going bad, happened very quickly and was able to drive to dealer Saturday morning and pick it up Saturday afternoon. Didn't miss my tennis match. :D

I've had dead battery problems. One time my car was so dead that the shift lock wouldn't work. It was stuck in park in my driveway and I needed to roll back my car so my other car can jump it.

Be carefull jumping this car. I'm not sure if the Infiniti is prone to this but one of the classic results of jumping a Mercedes is a small electrical surge and the seatbelt pre-tensioners blow. $800 each.

That would ruin your day.

That wouldn't matter. The seat belt tensioners are under lifetime warranty through Infiniti. Just had mine replaced last year at 238,000 miles. :)

My car's worst failure was a bad thermal sensor that prevented the air intake from opening on cold start leading to a stall.
