i know im not the only car guy that suffers from this dreaded ailment..

1 month ago, i had my project all planned out, with a timline and everything..rebuild with stock internals, small T3 from a saab @ 8-10 PSI and an SAFC. now my motor is at the machine shop getting prepped, the turbo is on ebay, and im saving for forged internals...

me: i just want new valve seals installedengine guy: ok, thatll be 7.50 a pieceme: while youre at it why dont you check the guides and install some new ones if theyre worn...engine guy: no problemme: i guess you could deck it too..engine guy: let me get a work order list..me: screw it, just rebuild it and check all the specs so that theyre in factory tollerances...engine guy: let me total all this up..

so basically i went from spending ~200 dollars to at least 600+ in a 20 min period. Im convinced that there is something fundamentally wrong with a car guy's brain that wont let him just leave things alone and do only whats needed...everything has to be rediculously overbuilt.

wow i just got a call from the machine shop while i was typing this and just spent another 87 dollars!!

speed costs a lot

Another bad syndrome: the friend that keeps telling you to "DOO ITT!"example- the foster effect:try asking foster if you should get a general rebuild... it starts off positive... then soon turns into insulting your testicular fortitude with issues like forged internals, bigger valves, etc.

but alas, the door swings both ways, and now foster is in his own rebuild process.... DOOOOO IIIITTT!!!

hahahah dude, why do you think he's even getting forged internals??

<-------------------------------

hahahaha!

It's true though, I cant have him out-doing me on this rebuild thing. Anything that he does, I have to do ++ so I'm basically screwing myself, but hey!

general rule of thumb, never have foster come with you to drop off ANYTHING at the machine shop, because youre gonna end up spending more than you planned, just so that you dont get called a wuss

My head ended up the same way, went from a $40 resurface to a $450 mild port and 3 angle. Oh well, it's just money.

never...go...with...foster...to...machine...shop

memo noted, good sir!

on a relative note, my dad had an austin healey sprite before we got our 3000, that had a 1200cc engine, we took it in to get block work done and the guys were crying they were laughing so hard...now theres incentive to upgrade, not only parts but displacement as well
