when I first noticed it, it was couple days ago. I drove 50 miles high way, the water temp needle was at normal position during the high way trip. then I hit the local streets, the water temp needle suddenly almost hit the H position. stayed there for like 10 second, then it started to drop while the car is movng. from that point, the needle stayed at the 1 bar above normal position.

since that day, the water temp needle keep doing the same thing. it acts normally on the high way, but when I am driving the in the local streets. it just scares me ...

before the 50 miles trip. Ive a spot of coolant under the car, i think half foot wide. so i went under the car, looked like coolant was leaking from under the water pump. the is a little hole under the water pump correct? so, I filled the tank and the radiator, make sure everything was good to go.

any idea what is wrong with the temp. thing? thanks

sounds like your water pump needs to be changed, the water pump has a small hole on the underside, if coolant starts leaking from there, that means the gasket/rubber thing is done and the pump needs replacement.

How hard is it to replace the water pump? I've never deal this kinda problem before.

I've done some search before i post this. and it did mentioned how to remove air from the lines. is it just run the engine with the radiator cap off?

S13 has so many problems to deal with.. wish i still have my s14. when i had my s14, I've never encountered a single mechanical problem

I had this exact same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. There ended up being a small leak around the water pump. Air must of got in the system. I had a shop fix it, but they did not bleed the system, so I still had the same problem. After taking it back twice and showed them the FSM explaining how to bleed the system, it runs fine now. If you take it somewhere to be fixed, make sure they bleed out all of the air!!!

its in the fsm, check my sig or the sticky for that...there is a on the intake manifolt were the upper radiator hose comes off...there should be a litttle sticker saying something about beaing for bleading coolant...

bleeding air is very easy. run the car with the radiator cap off untill the thermo opens, open the bleeder screw on the intake manifold untill water comes out, then put it back in and turn the car off.

I got something funky going on with my temp gauge...it'll be normal when I accelerate but as soon as I shift the needle drops down all the way only to bounce back up when I start accelerating again.I'm not leaking any fluid so I think it could be the temp sensor but not sure...anyone know? Sorry to jack you post but just wondering if you could have the same kind of problem I have? Weird thing is it only started after I did my 5spd swap.
