I've been seeing the commercials for a little while and was curious as any zombocalyps-ee to see a series featuring the end of the world. I almost forgot about it but Im glad I remembered to watch it. Let me tell you.. it's GOOD. The zombies looked super real and actually gave me the creeps (like Jesda's spaghettidogs). I hope others watched it as well. Its about time someone came out with a good series on TV about surviving the dead. The best part is is that it comes on every week. You can also enter for a chance to be an extra as a zombie, how fun... Entered.

Very real, very suspensful, highly recommended.

M1nder had a thread about this a little while ago. I didn't see the show, but I've read the book, and let me tell you...

SPOILER

if they stay true to the book, don't get attached to pretty much any character.

END SPOILER.

There's no way they'll follow the book like that. A public that couldn't get Arrested Development certainly will reject that level of character loss. Well, maybe. It'll be like a reality show, a character a week!

Doesn't the fact that it's a zombie-show sort of mean that this isn't much of a spoiler? I thought the point of zombies is that nobody wins. You can try to put off your gruesome and untimely death, but it's inevitable when zombies are involved.

Not really. Viewers don't know how the story will develop. A cure or solution might be found eventually. Ppl have to fight for survival, because you just don't know how things might turn out. Thinking like yours is what makes ppl snap under pressure. You can't just give up!

You have to put preconcieved notions out of your head because if you make wrong assumptions, thats when you get chomped. I kept watching to see what kind of zombies these were. Will they eventually die off without sustainance? Can they run? What senses do they have (sight/sound/smell)? There are different types of zombies in this genre. Better know what you're dealing with...

After watching months of High School of the Dead (and loving it), this show came right on time to fill the void! One thing that freaked me out on The Walking Dead versus High School of the Dead was just how many baseball bat blows to the head it took to bring one of these things down. Komuro must have been an All-Star batter to kill Them with just one blow...

It has that dude from Jericho in it. As long as they don't kill him too early I'll probably be able to get attached to it.

The HOTD anime is not hentai... It's risque, possibly even ecchi. But not hentai. 12 episodes = 3 months of viewing...

Yeah thats something to think about. They seem to see and hear their pray but have a hard tome getting there. Except while in groups... hungry groups, then it's 1st come 1st serve.

I hope that they develop into higher level mutated zombies that are half intelligent. They know what's going on around them and can run. Those are the scary ones that make me feel fear. I wonder what the boss is ganna be. Hopefully there is no stupid secret mystery hatch either.

SPOILER ALERT****

So I just watched it last night off my DVR. F*CKING AWESOME. I'm SO happy with what they have done and I so hope they can keep it fresh and moving along for the duration of several seasons.

Regarding zombies and their types, I point you to
Zombie trope #1: Zombie movement

There are only two types of zombies, when it comes to movement. "Shamblers" or sometimes called "Lumbering Zombies" are like what was featured in "Night of the Living Dead" and "The Walking Dead" (which is why it's called walking dead and not, oh, sprinting dead - lol). "Runners" or sometimes "Fast Zombies" are like what was in "28 days later" and the "Left 4 Dead" video game.

There are lots they can do on the show to keep the Z-curve (zombie curve) on an upswing:

Introduce fast zombies
Amp up the zombie pack-hunting foreshadowing (they did this beautifully when he got ambushed in Atlanta)
Introduce "specialist" zombies like the strains in L4D (spitters, boomers, hunters, smokers, witches, jockies, etc)
As Alms24Sebring pointed out, there could be "smart" zombies, but that's kinda doubtful in the traditional sense, as the fever that kills the victim "burns you out" as Morgan says.

:werd: Slow zombies make me anxious and nervous, but I'd be ok as long as they aren't in big groups.... But those fast, 28 Days/Weeks Later Zombies?! They scare the F*CK outta me! Melee combat doesn't work with those frenzied guys. I'd probably loose my sanity and wits dealing with them bastards... :ohno:

28 Weeks Later is the only movie that ever made me experience nightmares as an adult. That sh*t lasted for almost a year...

I saw it and liked it - it's my "new" show. Hawaii 5-0 just ain't gonna cut it.

It started slow with the chit-chat in the squad car, but after he woke up in the hospital, it got good!

His ears ringing inside the tank was well done, I'm glad they considered it. Tearing up the horse for a zombie meal was another good touch! Who was the dude on the tank's radio? Hmmm? How did it start? Waiting for answers -

I'm looking forward to more.

Fast, smart zombies aren't zombies, and are stupid.

Zombies are supposed to be lumbering, mindless terrors. The fear derives from being helpless against the horde.

Left 4 Dead style zombies should stay in Left 4 Dead.

Thats why the fast ones are so scary. no melee and seem to have unlimited energy.

I agree with the idea of tainted DNA strands. I'm sure theres plenty of creativity to be had with but would prefer it to still be realistic.

It is a sort of slow start but I think that adds the suspense and questions. Remember it's not a movie, they have months of filming to do.

I just thought of something. the latest movie that really scared me was Quarantine. That was a bada$$ scary movie forreals. I cant believe some people said it sucked. Fast zombies that can hear, see, and attack = death! Definantly top 5 of all time IMO.

Also the original black and white Night of the Living Dead (196?), +1

I is retarded, forgot it's a 2010 release and most people would have watched it episodically. I watched all of them in one sitting it was that good. Or I was that bored...whichever.

I watched it... I liked it. Only noticed 1 little editing glitch.

When he's riding on the horse and that f*** is taking off, his "sack of guns" starts to fall over (at which point the guns would fall out), yet next scene its all perfect.
