Ok, not sure if anyone remembers my previous posts. To sum it all up, ive been trying to get a vlsd for my s13. I have had 3 shipped to my house already, and have problems with every one.

Diff #1: Found a listing on line from car-part for a junkyard that had one from a hicas car. Called the guy, told him that I wanted the diff to replace my open diff, and that it should have 6 bolt outputs, no abs, blah blah. When it arrived, I noticed the lack of the orange sticker, opened it up, and wallah- open diff. Called the place, and they sent the ups guy back to pick it up, and I received a refund. They had no explanation for why this open diff had come out of a hicas car.

Diff#2: Ordered one from ebay. It comes, and is another open diff. So at this point, im thinking WTF . This guy had advertised it as a vlsd on ebay, even putting r200v in the item description. Paypal is currently investigating, so for now it sits on my front doorstep .

Diff#3: I still have faith in most of the ebay sellers, so I won an auction for a jdm diff with the 4.4 ratio and 6 bolt outputs. It comes, and it looks good, sticker, 4.4 ratio, both outputs turn same direction ect. By this time I had already put in my kts coilovers, and the diff was next to go in. I put in new fluid, and swapped it with the open one. My driveway is at a slant, and with the coilovers I could not make it up with the open diff, so I tried with the vlsd in place. The tire in the air spun like crazy, but the car slowly went up with a good bit of wheelspin. Seemed like the locking capability was pretty much gone. I took it out to a country road, found a gravel patch, and tried again(now that the diff would be warmer). Put one tire in the gravel and the other out and floored it. One beautiful 10 foot long black mark remained. Dammit! . I called the seller up and he was really nice about it and said that he would pay to have it shipped back, and try to see if he has any others. So Ive swapped the diff in my car twice now and im still running an open.

This sucks!

BTW: If the seller lets me, I think I will try to keep the outputs, and use them in place of the 5-bolts on an r32 diff. The outputs are interchangeable right?

Man thats some bad luck. Have you thought any about a s15 HLSD or a clutch/plate style like tomei, kaaz or cusco? seems like with all the money you've dropped for those vlsd's you could have had a really nice, brand new clutch type unit.

Man...if I were you I would have spent some cash buying a 1.5 way from Kaaz or something. That's why when I was looking for a VLSD I didn't try to get one from a 240sx, I looked for either J30's or z32's. Good luck with sorting it all out, it will all be worth it in the end lol.

you should look at the junkyards here in kennedale if you don't mind a 3hr drive, there's 1 mazda/nissan yard where i believe they had a couple of lsds, i asked and they had 1 the other day but i had to spend the $$ elsewhere.

Ive called around everywhere... nobody has them for a decent price. I am getting all of the money back for each diff, and will only end up paying for one. I really dont want a welded diff, cause I do alot of city driving, and I dont want my car jumping around everywhere. As far as clutch types, I hate the clunking, and would rather not deal with the maitenence. #1 choice would definately be the s15 helical, just makes more sense to have a torque biasing diff. I want my car to grip like crazy, and drifting will just be a for fun thing for me. I dont want to spend the time or money on a helical diff right now, so Im getting a viscous for now. That way I will at least have an extra pumpkin and the 4.4 ring gear to use when I get a helical, and can give myself some time to get it all assembled, while still having my car to drive. I think the guy that sent me the worn vlsd will be able to help me out. Just thought this whole situation was kinda interesting. I think maybe god wants me to run an open for life lol.

Damn bro, I feel your pain....I bought a VLSD with the NISMO gearing 4.4:1 and I love it!!! Works like a charm..I did a reverse burnout and a couple of reverse donuts at my work the day after I swapped....but, I had the 5 bolt axles and unfortunately I got shipped two of the drivers side axles...(diff is offset so one is longer). So after two weeks of searching NICO (BTW gotta say thanks to NICO for the help) and the web I got a J30 axle and it rocks....So don't give up yet man....It'll be worht it once your done.

No I bought it from Big Tom's garage...pretty decent guy, He said he is gonna ship me the passenger side axle, but I couldn't wait so I just bought one anyway....At least this way I'll have a spare set ready to go!! I bought some things off of Neotech imports and never had any problems...seems like a stand up guy if he is willing to work with you..
