Today on the way home is was pouring rain, I was on I-26 running 60mph and saw the slow motion accident beginning in front of me. I've never really felt the VDC take over until today. Here's what I noticed and did- the gas pedal became inoperable, the power steering cut WAY back, and I was able at 45-50mph weave through 3 cars on the highway as they came to rest in a zig zag pattern. Everytime the rear started to break loose, the instantly went from the feeling of sliding, to feeling like it was on rails. I felt the one rear wheel brake independently while the others maintained. The system would not let me steer into the slide because it corrected it so quickly, that my human response would have put the car back into a slide in the other direction.. it was almost silent as the Q danced through the mess, my seatbelt did that weird thing and pulled me back into the seat and gently released when our intended path was reassumed. Absolutely amazing how those systems worked together in perfect harmony.
So, I went to the mall parking lot to try it some more.. you can NOT break the rear loose with VDC on duty. I cut the wheel at 15-20mph and floored it, VDC took control and shot me out like a rocket in the direction I choose, no skid, no worries.
I gave minimal directive to avoiding the 3 cars, the Q is amazing.. I forgot to mention the active suspension activated sport mode. My big girl might be 200 inches long, and enjoys slow boulevard runs, but today, that big b**ch stood up and danced. I think I'm going to leave Sport mode on, even though I enjoy the bounce on the hwy in auto mode.
